Several over the years. Seems to come up about every 3 months.

American Army Platoon Sergeant. Infantry, then Military Police, then Administration.

Are/were Soviet Siberian Partizans a militia?

Signed up for the Navy in 1988 (2 weeks after graduation). Discovered that due to the desire to shrink the military, my heart murmur (which had been undetectable since 1977) was a disqualifying event. (Taught me at a young age to lie on medical forms). Whatever grade they put on you as for "only physically fit if the Russians are kicking our doors in" was what I got. Lost a scholarship (and that summer forthat matter) and wasn't even allowed to join my local national guard. Funny thing was, I was doing triathalons at the time. But my heart wouldn't have taken Navy food, I'm sure...

I tried and was denied. I'm looking at joining again... to gain enough skill and understanding to start my own revolution.

This whole damned Katrina incident, plus Hurricane Season destroyed business (plus I hate business)

and I'm looking for a bit more adventure in my life.

That is sad. Sorry, man. But the Navy fed me very well. Never once saw the proverbial MRE. Those poor grunts. They make them hump around, then don't feed them real food and make them wear green. Very sad.

Was that called for? Really? You can have my disability. I'd give it to you right now, if I could.

10 years US Air Force, Communications Computer Operator, SSgt. I just recently got out. Now working for the National Geospacial Agency as a contractor.

My thumb is deformed from the multiple bottles of soju and O.B. beer while in Korea. Guess I should have claimed it when I got out.

That was probably the coldest thing I have ever heard someone say in the forum. a disabled vet is worthy of a handshake and if possible a salute everytime you see one. A couple of Nam' vets used to come to the "resort" everyone year or so and one of them had a grenade land by him and crippled him for the life (destroyed his spine) and the other stepped on a landmine and disabled his leg (although it was never removed and he was thankful for it), I treated those guys better than any costumer I ever had because of the sheer amount of respect I had for them, even though they never really were terribly nice to me.

I lost part of my right hand in an industrial accident on board ship. Because of my rating as a machinist, even a nuc, it meant that I could no longer handle tools properly. The Navy, in its infinite wisdom decided I was no longer needed.

I certainly salute him for his service but you have to admit he has made it sound like he got hurt doing his job in the service and therfore was disabled not that he suffered from some medical malady that was not service related. If I can call Kerry a coward and a traitor this is a far cry from that I would think. In fact he may be drawing compensation anyway because he was in the service. Im not questioning his service but the impression I got. Personally I hate the government so much Ive never even put into the VA for anything. My point is Ive never heard Don mention a word about this while Aenlic brings it up often. Thats because us conservatives are humble. Especially your truly

In that case you have my apology. As I said it was the impression I got from your reply to Dons post that your handicap was not service related. I hope they took and continue to take good care of you then. Please excuse this jarhead for speaking out of turn. Thats why I was hiding behind that couch.

Thats what I was trying to do by apologising. I dont hold any grudges against anyone here. Its only talk between people who never have nor ever probably will ever meet. I said I behaved like an ass what more would you have me do?

I would appreciate if patrons who are older than me (and probably wiser than me) would also behave accordingly.

Me and my friends have declared a small part of our local woods (about a square mile) an autonomous country, and i have been given the rank of 'Filed Matul'. I think it's meant to be Field Marshall, but the bit of paper that has been pinned to my shirt to show my rank clearly says Filed Matul. I get to wear a cool paper hat and order my friends about. But in turn i get ordered about by my 'Genral'...

No, not sad. It was a disappoinment I had to get over though. See, I was raised from day 1 to be a submarine officer. I used to play sub-hunter with my friends when everyone else was playing cowboys & indians. I had my room plastered with crew photos & ship photos. My dad was on subs, and when he left the Navy, he went to work at Electric Boat (the submarine shipyard) and he designed & built them.

My heart condition (which is laugable, it wasn't by the time I applied) wasn't the navy's fault, it was genetics. Truth be told, the recruiter was really, really nice. He could have held me to the commitment and put me on surface ships or worse, in years of desk service someplace. But as it was 1988, and the military was trying to scale back, he was pretty kind and said "Look, I know all you want is subs. You'll never get into nuclear power school or sub school with your heart condition. If you really want to take an administrative job someplace, call me in a month. Otherwise, I'm doing to do you a favor and declare you medically unfit".

By the way, Gawain, I think you owe Aenlic one-night's bar tab. One beer won't cut it in this case. I think it was really big of you to apologize, but don't be surprised when it doesn't make everything sunshine and roses immediately afterwards.

Finally, to anybody that served, thank you, and I owe you a beer/wine/drink. I've never been in airport travelling and passed up the chance to buy a serviceman/woman a drink. That's my little contribution I guess.
