Default Do the French really have the taste of art ?

Well, While I was listening to some French singer/band called Kent - the song Terres De France, I came up with that question.

There is a general belief that the French have somehow a further perception and expression of arts. Any French music always sound much more melodic to me, blending so many notes and instruments together that you can pick out each of them while they keep the harmony.

That is not only about music - cinemas, sculpture, fine arts and so on as well..

Do you agree on that ? Of course it is a bit absurd to "fit" some humanly concept to a race but they mave have such a virtue as a race, don't they ? (as warrior culture to Turks is, heh.. )

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

I really don't mind the french at all. Most are good some are bad, for the most parts Americans and French are equal in terms of culture and personality, the French are just more liberal, liberalism= personal expression, and thus the French have better finances to express personal expression. I don't know if this is true or not, but if you become part of the French "art community" you'll actually get a government check every month to continue persuing you're art career further... this sort of thing doesn't happen in most western countries. That might give some people to believe that the French have a superiority complex, or if you are French, superior to everyone else, but you can't deny the impact the French have had in terms of art, fashion, and even some music in the modern world, due to the fact the French actually embrace expression.

Surely Kent are Swedish? Or are there two bands called Kent?

Let us tread with the most polite of footsteps here.

Any hint of country bashing or general nastiness and it's closed.

Oh bummer. I was about to post this huge essay of mine entitled 'On the origin of the superiority of the French in each and every respect through means of natural selection', bashing all you pityful, knuckle-dragging, cave-dwelling races of the world...

    Ok, so I was not.
Wazi pretty much summed it up. It's a matter of national preference and of stimulation by the government. Culture like anything else can be bought.

Swedish Kent are my favorite (En Himmelsk Drog, Stanna Hos Mig, Musik Non Stop and the rest of the Hagnesta Hill album. It's a milestone of alternative rock). But after listening to an album called "Bianvenue Au Club" by Kent - thinking that they tried a French taste unexpectedly this time. Right after listening to it, I visited allmusic.com. There are two Kent's - one Swedish one French.

I recommend the French one's latest album though. Have a try.
