but now i wonder in what game you would include it:
this legionary is not in rtw EB
and in rtw BI EB you it wont be...
he is in the limbo

That legionnaire isn't, but the roman legionaire with segmata armor really wasn't the most important (for lack of a better word, prevalent mabye), the one clad in chain (who is in EB, both the Marian and Early Imperial) is what people should think of when they think of the Roman Military. I guess segmata is just more unique and makes more of an impression...

so why did these units drop the chainmail?
well, but instead being recluted normally, they could be a gift i.e. when the city reachs xxx.000 population, the city could get 1 unit or, i dont know... but could be a great eye candy to see him
I am afraid they won't be included. EB is all about historical accuracy, and adding an unhistorical unit rather defeats this point. Also, since there is a limit on the number of unit models avaible, adding an Imperial Legionary means dropping another unit. I doubt they would do that for a "gimmick unit" even if it was historically accuracte.Originally Posted by infierno
(I realize that Lorica Segmentata was already known in Augustus' time, so it isn't that inaccurate, but from what I have heard it was not in common use.)
I know. I merely meant that it was the legionary used by the Roman Empire at the height of its power. Whether they were truly as effective as the troops Ceasar and Pompey commanded is questionable.Originally Posted by QwertyMIDX
I never thought of that, but it is an interesting question. What is the chance we will still have Camillian units when we reach the Marian reforms? And are these units still useful or do we have to disband them after some time?Originally Posted by GeWee

yes, you'll be disbanding units if you don't really need them automatically.
Due to the fact that segmentata was cheaper and faster to produce than hamata (mail) or squamata (scale).Originally Posted by jerby

Yes. It was also easier to fix after a battle.Originally Posted by Sarcasm
Think about how many rings go in a chainmail shirt, now count the pieces in segmata armor...Yup, it was far faster to produce as well as easier to repair, and the protection it offered wasn't much worse (it was better against somethings in fact). Still, despite what TV tells us the hamata clad legionaire was the more common one, was used for a longer period of time, and was the one who fought in most of Rome's conquests (after the reforms of Marius).
