the United Nations reports that Scotland is the most violant place in the developed world, with 2000 attacks a week. However, various senior officers of the constabulary criticised the report, saying that 2000 is about 10 times greater than the number of attacks in police records.

The report claims there are 2,000 attacks per week
Scotland has been named the most violent country in the developed world by a United Nations report.
The study found that, excluding murder, Scots were almost three times as likely to be assaulted as Americans.
Victims of crime in 21 countries were interviewed by the UN, but senior Scots police officers criticised the study.
The survey concluded that 2,000 Scots were attacked every week. That figure is 10 times the number recorded in official police figures.
The results showed Scotland was more violent than either England or Wales.
The figure for Scotland dwarves that of other developed nations such as Japan, where people are 30 times less likely to be attacked.
A statement from the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland said: "The general picture of Scotland around the world is not one of a violent country

I would believe the UN report more than the records of the constabulary, considering that attacks are only reported if the attacked person is middle-aged, elderly, an upstanding citizen (which rarely occurs), or the attack is serious enough for the person to go to hospital. Although, it is this type of behaviour that makes us produce the best soldiers in the world.
