That's true Dune is the first RTS. However, it's still a widely accepted truth that Starcraft is the king of the RTS region.
To you, it may be "Real Time Strategy", but to anyone who's sick and tired of the genre, "Resource Transit System" is the real definition. The whole game genre are dependant on one thing: resources you "mine" from the surrounding area. Gold, crystals, tiberium, cash, spice... it's all the same.

Build worker.
Send worker to mine resource.
Wait for worker to come back to your main building with resource.
Build more workers.
Send workers to mine resources.
Rinse and repeat.
Build hordes of A) super strong units, or B) super weak but super cheap units.
Zerg rush the enemy.
Rinse and repeat.


Thankfully, Total Annihilation: Kingdoms made the resources, and how it's "mined" to be quite unique.
