Election 05: Still in doubt.

Well after that bloody lengty election coverage last night (I liked TV 3's better) I have to say its still in doubt. I mean 10% of the vote in the form of special votes is yet to be counted and proir to the terrible debacle of Shipley most of these votes went to National, but is it enough to wait on in terms of coalition talks. Well we all know Peter Dunne willl not go into a government with green cabinet ministers or portfolios, but Clark said little of the Greens last night. As for the king maker Winston Peters, he is a git so no one really knows what he's up to. But even if labour gets in, what can be done to close the division between New Zealanders? We have witnessed the amalgamation of the new right in National (most of nationals new votes came from rightwing parties) and the cemetation of Labour, this is far more problomatic if some dissulusioned Labour supporters voted for Brash instead of Clark, for this is a real division.

It looks like a Labour/Maori/Green coilition is heading your way Bopa .

The Nationals could have done it , but when you have anti Maori and pro nuclear policies it would be kind of hard to get the Greens and Maori to enter your coilition

Anyway Labour have been doing pretty good over the past few terms havn't they ? decent growth , low unemployment .

I think the swing away from Labour has more to do wiyh people getting slowly annoyed at their incumbant government over its time in office than anything specific , it happens to every party that stays in power . Over time there are more and more things to be annoyed about . It would be the same (but in reverse) if the Nationals had been sitting in power for the past two terms .

Given the swing to National. If the special Votes also swing to National, it could be interesting. National needs to get 10-15% more votes than Labour in this count.

I think we should hold off coalition talks until this is counted.
