    Default Victoria EUTS

I just got that (along with the Europa Universialis II, Hearts of Iron, Two Kings, and Northern Kings, and the EUII Asian Expansion)

Anyone got any tips for Victoria on how to get a nation started, and any other suggestions for the rest of the games.

I ask because it's usually something like that which causes outbursts like this, needless to say I dissagree completely.

Vicky took me a long time but its worth the wait..

    Tips.

I find researching industrial techs before others helps followed by commercials.

When you have a surplus of machine parts, upgrade factories even if you dont have people to fill the slots. This bumps your efficiency output waaayy up. (I dont know why 5 people in a 50 man factory is better that 5 people in a 5 man factory but it works... )

Try and stake claims in places like the pacific island chains. You can wrangle a fortune out of the USA in an exchange deal!

Vicky... oh, Vicky... so many hours spend on that biatch...

lol, whatever. here are some tips:

    - beware of the addiction. This game is extremely complicated (you'll need plenty of time to learn the basics and much, much more to actually master it) but when you get the hang of it, it's extremely addictive. Can suck up loads of your social/family/professional life time before you even know it

    - After you understood that, go over at paradoxplaza.com. They got heaps of good reading material (scattered in many forum topics, of course) and you can get a good idea of how to proceed.

    - Pick a country that is easy to play (but not necessarily to win) with. I'd recommend Belgium or Sweden. Stay away from UK, Russia, US, Prussia in the beginning - far too complicated - and stay away from minors as to survive and thrive with them takes more than beginners skill.

    - Try to stake claims in Africa (fairly easy access for Belgium) and the pacific (fairly profitable later on)

    - Go for machine parts tech asap - you need it. If you play with Belgium, the industrial potential is very, very good, but you'll need to act fast and try to get a lead.

    - Your first war (after the initial confrontation) should be against Holland (again). A general note about wars: Alliances, alliances, alliances. Being allied to the UK, maybe France and Prussia when facing Holland as Belgium, renders you completely invulnerable, no matter what alliances they got.

    - Try to learn the basic game mechanics by fiddling around a lot. You may sink your country in the first game, but later you'll manage to bring them to glory.

    - The most interesting countries to play with (for my playing style, at least) are Prussia, Italy (those two have the best "unification events") Japan (good potential, if you can industrialize soon - veeeery slow start though) China (a backwards giant becoming #1 is quite a challenge) Russia (huge potential, humangous problems at start, very difficult to cope with and gaining a tech lead is very challenging with Russia).
When the going gets tough, the tough shit their pants

china is actually pretty easy, as long as you avoid the opium wars (thats really easy) you'll do fine.

I tried a game as Austria, and was crippled by revolts and corruption. Tried a game as Sweden and got whacked by even more corruption. In some ways playing UK can be a blessing. You can do evrything wrong and still come out top 3.

If you have lots of corruption, spend more on crime fighting... dont tax anyone above 49.99%, this will encourage emigration from your country, which you dont want.

Try Brazil and read the beginners guide at vikiwiki.

I just got this game the other day too...

I tried starting out as China but was frustrated by the UK's and Russia's tendancy to view me as a kind of punchbag, so I started again as the US of A.

I'm in 2nd place with 18 years left, and my n00b tips for what their worth would be to build railroads everywhere, keep taxes high (they dont mind really) and dont worry too much about going into debt.

What dates does this game play from and to?
Would it have countries like Rep. of California, Hapsburg empire, even Deseret?
    If so, I'm buying it!!!
