    Default AM for Meadhall.

    Hello,

You may have noticed that Monk is no AM here anymore. I've added my name to the forum, but I can hardly do better than spelling my own name right.

This forum needs an enthusiast. Perhaps there are volunteers and/or you like to nominate someone? You can do so in this topic.

I wouldn't mind being AM of the Mead Hall. I'm an avid reader, and I consider my writing to be quite good.

I usually read the stories, and I have some experiance moderating Invision forums. I also have a sense of humor while locking threads (Beirut II, anyone? ).

Well I do read quite a few of the stories in the Mead hall I wouldn't even dream of nominating myself for moderater. I haven't even posted any of my own writing onto the forum.

Considering that Shadow One did set-up the writing classes (although his classes don't seem to have much content). However, he does seem to be the best for the job, enthusiasm and all.

How is the AM going to be decided anyway? Popular demand or arbitary decision?

I think 'Ludens' would be a great choice here.

I am sorry to hear that you leaving us, Monk. I hope you will not stay away permanently.

I thank you and Mithrandir and Drisos for the honour of the nomination. I'd really like to accept, but I am afraid that I won't be able to check the Mead Hall every twenty-four hours. If that is a problem, then somebody else ought to get the job. If not, consider me available.

I don't think TosaInu has decided on a new procedure, so the elections will go in the same way as the previous ones. Firstly, candidates will be nominated by themselves or by others, then a public poll will be made where all Org members can vote for their candidate of choice. So I think you should clarify whether you are placing yourself as a candidate or whether you are supporting The Shadow One.

You know, now that Ludens mentions it, I'm not going to be able to check this forum every twenty-four hours either.

Ludens wrote an excellent essay on the punctuation of dialogue and would make a great AM for this forum. I would support him wholeheartedly.

Meanwhile, I'm working a full-time (plus) job (that does require traveling on occassion) and teaching a writing class this fall. In addition to that, I'm getting my own writing career off the ground -- which requires a commitment of several hours per day.

My interest in being the AM was prompted by the kind people who nominated me. My feeling is if Ludens wants the job, let him have it. He'd do a great job.

Meanwhile, I'll try to get those essays done now . . .

    Stranger:

Good work, then. There is no more accurate measure of human character than the willingness to work and sacrifice towards a goal, even if it means revealing yourself and what you create to the criticism of the world.

With respect to Poetry v. Writing -- why limit yourself? If you like writing poetry, write poetry. It's harder (for me) than prose; the restrictions of poetry (less words, meter, balance) make it a more challenging form of expression. And writing poetry, forcing yourself to make each word count, will make you a better writer overall.

Note that many writers write in the poetic form as well as the prose form. I just finished reading Mo Yan's The Garlic Ballads, in which he started each chapter with a small poem. And don't forget Pasternack, who wrote Dr. Zhivago, and created the poety as well as the man.

For good measure, The Lord of the Rings is filled with poety, showing Tolkien's power as a poet as well as a storyteller.

Good luck, my friend, and let us see some of your stuff.

Well, it all depends on whether TosaInu is willing to accept less than once-every-twenty-four-hours surveillance.

But I am sure you would do a great job too, and I look forward to reading your essays.
