This is how I'll be pre-ordering, by using Amazon and putting-up with the few days shipment and delivery. Did exactly the same for Rome: Total War. Can't be bothered to pick it up from the shops - they usually run out of stock in the first few days/weeks of sale anyway And as Simon Appleton says, you don't pay the mark-up price of high-street retailers, thus saving a bit, although you do have to pay postage + packaging + potential shipping costs.
