    Default R:TR Problem

    Hello there,

i'm sorry if this got mentioned somewhere in the internet as yet, but my google-scanning-eye didn't find it. :)

Anyway, in the RTR menu I've got problems with my mouse cursor, when I move it, it leaves a blinking trace in every menu and when i get over a faction, it shows and freezes down the description of it. That is really irritating, as for example the making of custom battles takes a lot longer aswell as searching for the right faction to play.

Im playing on a toshiba notebook, pentium x400 or something with a radeon something and 1024 RAM, I believe.

Sorry for the brief description of my laptop specs. but i want to read some old .org threads about RTW further :D

    Thanks for even reading this,
    regards
    Arcanum

got this of the activision support page :

Question I am getting mouse trails all over the screen.

Answer Make sure that you meet the minimum system requirements.

Make sure you have the latest video and sound card drivers from the manufacturers' websites.

Set your desktop to a resolution of 800x600, 32 bit True Color.
    1) Right-click on your desktop and select Properties.
    2) Click the Settings tab.
    3) Set your screen area to 800x600.
    4) Set the colors to 32 Bit (True Color). Under Windows NT this will be listed as 65554 colors.
    5) Click Apply and OK.

All background applications must be shutdown prior to running the game.

This may be happening because you don’t have the Microsoft® Media Player 9 codec package properly installed. Insert Rome: Total Wars Disk 1 into your CD Drive, when the Auto play splash screen comes up, press on the Extras button and on that next screen you will find a button to install the codec package for you.

Note:This fix will not work for users of Windows® 98 first edition.

If you have Microsoft Media Player 10 installed try uninstalling Media Player 10 and then reinstalling it. Media Player 10 can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/wi...10/default.aspx.

or check the link yourself :

Sadly, this did not work. :(

If you have mouse acceleration on disable it, it has been the cause for some people.
    Neither did this... :(

    Just to describe it further:
It is, as if the different graphical layers are overlaying themselves, for example if you click on 'options' you see the normal menu, at the beginning of RTR AND you see the options menu and you can only click on the latter...

    Thanks anyway,
    Arcanum

I have the same problem, but it is not a gamebreaker. On my computer, it only affects the introductory menus - when I start a campaign, everything is fine.

The same counts for me, but I find it irritating when initiating a multiplayer or custom battle, so I'd rather ask than to live with the problem and voilá! The .org solves it. :D
    Thanks CBR it worked :)

I'm not sure whether anyone will understand what I'm trying to say (since english is not my major tongue). When I start a RTW (or RTR any version) once past the startup screen , loading bar etc when it comes to selection screen (where got single player , option , load campaign etc) once I move the mouse, the mouse pointer starts to get those jerky background images , like shadows everywhere I move the mouse and it's difficult to really 'point' the option that I want to select. But fortunately once I passed all the 'mazes" and into the campaign map / and battle map everything works fine , except sometimes there's dot's once in a while.

Now, I hope I explained clearly and understandbly but unfortunately I don't have the screenshot. I remebered reading it somewhere in other forum regarding this but couldn't find it anymore so I came here for help. It happened once before but at that time I was on the process of reformating the drives and re-installing everything so no more problem arise anymore after reformating everything and reinstalling but now I don't want to do it anymore. I know it's not hardware related so it must be either software , programmes or drivers problem.

    Here's what I do.

    1. Uninstall RTW (in anticipation for clean install of RTW , 6.0 & 6.1) defrag my drive , clean everything.

    2. Uninstalled some windows codecs (don't remember but use to watch MPEG4 DVD on media player)

    3. Unstalled g-lock temp cleaner , and installed another new prog (forgot the name but functios the same)

    4. Uninstalled DIvX vid and media codex (?) 6.0

    5. Upgrade windows media player to WMP 10.

    6. Unstalled-reinstalled nvidia driver (using the latest forceware 77.22 (?) and directX 9.0(c)

    7. Installed RTW and play ------> then I see the annoying 'bugs'.

    Action taken :

    1. Roll back driver (use cd provided with my geforce card) ------> didn't work out

    2. Reinstalled the version 9 of Win Med Player (that comes with RTW cd) ----> didn't work out

    3. Installed back the latest nvidia driver (didn't reinstall the cd cope version) ----> no luck

    4. Run dxdiag but couldn't found any fault. All test run smmothly.

    5. Run temp cleaner for unused files ----> still have the jerky mouse pointer image

    6. Give up and cry for help here.

    System spec :

    P4 1.7 , 512 MB sdram , 40GB hdd , SB Live soundcard , Geforce FX5200 128MB(yeah, yeah I know ...) , that's all I guess. Thanks for any help and solution.

    Cheers.

LesTaT, I believe you are describing the same problem as the original poster and I experienced. Following CBR's advice, I uninstalled Windows Media Player and then re-installed it. For other reasons, I uninstalled RTW and then reinstalled it, patched it, installed RTR 6.0 and the RTR 6.1 patch. The problem has disappeared.

It is possible that installing RTR 6.1 did the trick, but more likely CBRs solution worked.

Hi, Emperor, nice to see you posting here again. It's good timing - RTR 6.1 looks like a good mod, and we can look forward to the imminent release of both Barbarian Invasion and Europa Barborum (although you may have inside experience of the later?). I'm not sure either will be enough to resurrect PBM but you never know.

Nope . Nope. None works. So last night i let XP reinstalkled him/herself .. Ehehe.. Well since I got nothing to do and all my important files (games) are in D partition I just make a clean install of WX on C. Haven't test the game yet but if it doesn't work then I guess I'll just throw down the whole lot down my apartment and go play PS2.

    Cheerss...

Well looks like I need to catch up on stuff then.

Other issues have been responsible for my abscence, but its good to see most of the old crew still here.

I will have to check the Europa Barborum boards to see what has happened since my break from TW... I was working on some things for the mod when other things in my life took priority over games.

Good to hear the expanson is the works and EB is going strong. Sounds like a good time to return to TW.

As for PBEMs... Well I do hope they come back on, admittedly RTW wasn't as good as MTW for it.
