Some might say that's somewhat cheesy but I hesitate to criticise as, some day, I'll have an absolute disaster on the field and go reaching for that gamesave myself. <shrug>

I just wanted to make it clear that this wasn't what I was suggesting the save facility is for. My game is a lot more stable these days (I got the video drivers sorted out) but I used to suffer the frustration of crash to desktop (CTD) or the whole PC rebooting, sometimes in mid-battle - very frustrating on occasions where I'd won and was just issuing mopping-up orders. If this (or a power failure, say) happened in the midst of a series of battles, all on the same turn, with the original version of the game you'd have to fight ALL of them a second time, possibly with different results. With the new version, you have the luxury of at least being able to resume from whichever one you were in the middle of.

In agree. I had a battle with the Mongols where I think I had superior numbers. I had setup my battle lines, but then some mis clicks (putting some of my cavalry right in front of the line of spear, and my entire spear line also seemed to turn 90 degrees meaning it was no longer an straight and ordered battle line) and without realizing it clicked Begin. I also started the battle very close to the enemy, and therefore I didn't have enough time to get the cavalry out of there. The cavalry routed, and which subsequently caused the entire army to rout. Very annoying. I hadn't saved the game at that time either so I was left with either letting that defeat stand or go back a few turns to my last save game. I chose to go back a few turns instead.
