All you have to do is start the prologue, then exit.

erm. okay, what if i've installed RTR mod and the prologue is disabled. this means that i cannot play anything.

look, reinstalling the game isn't going to be fun when i know i've read somewhere in these forums once about a simple line you add/subtract to some descr_strat file that does the trick.

besides, i distinctly remember that "solution" you mentioned not working.

Start the game and then exit it at the main screen

open C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War and open preferences (a text file)

near the bottom you will find FIRST_TIME_PLAY and if it says TRUE change this to FALSE. Now save and voila!
You can now do the Imperial campaign without needing to do the prologue

Sorry, I was a bit busy elsewhere, and was about to reply, but it seems you got the answer anyway.
