The forum will be down for some time today. I'm not sure how long, it can be a couple of minutes only or a few hours (Murphy have mercy). I'll do my best to do things as smooth and quick as possible. I'll drop a note some 10 minutes in advance, when the forum will get down.

It's a new version. It would have been easy to upgrade, but something went wrong, and so it took hours to restore.

The avatars should work and the info is still there. I do not know exactely what causes it, but I have an idea. Don't expect too much from me today though ;)

The avatar problem, it wasn't reverting a template, but you have to update your USERCP to display them (something turned it off for all of us).

The search had to be disabled to restore the database. That will return.
Almost any candy is gone too, it will take time to restore.

No, not really. In case you haven't noticed: this is a whole new board. The upgrade should have taken less than 30 minutes, but something went wrong and it took hours. The board is still upgraded though. It just needs some small reconfigs and modifications, but the board has been down long enough. The really important things can already be done.

2 days equals 2*24 hours = 48 hours. The board went down around 20.15 Thursday 29-9-05 and went online again around 20.00 Friday 30-9-05. That's about 24 hours, much longer than strictly required, but much less than 48 hours.

Yes, some odd dog intuition warned me about something going wrong.

Consequences can be pretty huge when things go slightly wrong with big databases (a 1 mb file can be manipulated in just a few seconds, but you can hear the hardware groan when it is much bigger than that).

There's a safety backup from just a minute before the upgrade started, so nothing would be lost. In case things would go really bad (my own muscled PC crashing, which was again essential in finally getting the database back), the host could have restored the board.

There's only one major thing gone right now: the search. That is pretty intensive to create, the host will have to do that directly on his muscle PC (I can't do that there). To give an impression: loading a database without searchlog is a matter of say 10 minutes. Loading it with searchlog takes 7+ hours to go to 40% and then it crashes. Creating the searchlog on a very powerful PC with enough memory takes some 10 minutes. Doing it on a weak PC takes hours and finally crashes.

The host will fix that soon.

The new look isn't what it was yet. Got to restore a lot, but that's mostly candy. It would be nasty to keep the board offline any longer, just to restore all the bells and whistles. The Default Skin is probably the best one to get an idea about the new off-the box possibilities. At first glance not so much has changed in this version, cosmetically, but there are some gems.

Experimental skin has problems, may I warn the Mods. When I switched to Guild skin, all my quick reply, posting and editing problems were gone. I don't know if there is still a problem though.

Oh Tosa any idea why normal avatars aren't showing up as they used to when only the url avatar box is checked?

I'm thinking it got rid of the problem where with both boxes checked you saw two avatars, or I'm totally off.

You have no normal avatar selected. The custom code is gone and needs to be redone.

That's what I figured, just wanted to make sure the normal ones weren't supposed to show up with Custom Avatars enabled.

Oh BTW it won't let me pm you at the moment..... The button is just gone, only an e-mail button is there, so about Ignoramus, he hasn't signed back on yet.

EDIT: It will allow me to from the drop-down menu (when I hold my cursor over your screenname), but it wouldn't let me when I was in your profile.

That's right Uesugi Kenshin. Quite a few things changed inside, causing some things to malfunction in customised styles. I need to copy things from those templates into the new ones (don't want to re-invent the wheel again).

Your best bet is to use the Default template for now.

Nice! All the url avatars show up, the pm button is back in the RTW theme. Ahhhhh a semblance of normalcy and with a cool new edit feature!

The chat is integrated with the board and doesn't work with this new 3.5. The author told he would port it to 3.5.0 once it was released. So, it will be back. I'll look for the status of that one, or check out an alternative.

The spellchehcer isn't compatible either. There already is another alternative, but I have to check whether it's still functional (was made for a beta release).

This vanilla board is integrated with ie spell. Click the ABC inside the V symbol in the righttop corner. When you're there, note the pair of double arrows, a handy touch for those who have to say something.

This board will have two spellchekcers if things work out ok.

Ever since the update, the topic tracker doesn't work anymore. I know that at least two topics I have set to daily updates have been posted in ("Europa Barbaorum status" in the EB-forum and "The Machiavellian Adventures of Princess Eleanor" in the Mead Hall), yet I have received no updates. I did receive PM notifications, so the problem is not with my e-mail. I also checked the "tracked topics list" and they are still there, set at daily updates.

Any idea what is going on?
