Default have your views changed sense visiting the back room

Have your views changed sense visiting the back room or other forums.

Mine views were not effected that much here. But were changed by browsing gun forums actually. Those guys support freedom more then any where else I have found.

Here are the things I have changed my mind on.

I used to be anti gay marriage, now I wouldn't mind.

I used to be anti drug, I dont care if it's legalized now.... but dont ask me to use em'

I Used to be anti abortion but I dont mind as long as it is in the first trimester now

(this is the only one that comes from the org) I know longer want people to be killed for stealing a car.

I am very pro SMALL government now. I want the counties to rule them selves. I want almost no power to the state or feds!

I am pro welfare now (the feds better having nothing to do with it though )

And obviously I am more pro-gun now then I used to be.(you all know that though)

    ..........................

What views have you changed your mind on?

Perhaps some minor changes have taken place. None that I could pinpoint. Whether it's due to the backroom or other factors are uncertain.

However, what I do know is the fact that I feel more enlightened about what concerns different people and different nations (i intended the distinction between people and nations, yes).

    which can only be positive.

also i notice, which is funny, that a news item discussed in the frontroom, will 1,2, or 3 days later be discussed in denmark. like the british jailbreak thing. and all other occasions as well.

all in all, it's good be here, learn and observe others' view

Yes, mine have changed. I used to think that the American Left and Europe were in conjunction to bring the US down. I don't think that anymore, now I know it.

Just kidding. Yes, I've softened my views on several issues after reflecting on arguments put forward by the other side. On some other convictions, I've become all the more resolute.

I'm surprised to hear you say that you're 'pro-welfare' now Ceasar. Is that with respect to a certain lot in life, or anybody that wants to go on the dole, the rest of us should happily pay for them and keep our mouths shut about it, so we don't hurt their feelings? Being 'pro-welfare' covers a LOT of ground, from making sure that Grandma isn't eating catfood to Zeke deciding that he's too pretty to work and that the government owes him a new plasma TV.

It sure has taught me that there's always more than one side to an issue, and that it's rare that one side is completely correct or incorrect. Issues I would have been certain about before are less clear nowadays. I've also learnt that people on opposite sides of politics find it very hard to understand another's views; I guess this is obvious, but it's more so to me now.

What have I learnt? well, I've become more conservative, but that means I'm about dead centre now and I don't see it changing too much. I now have issue with capital punishment (before it was near Kaiser level kill kill kill) and scream in rage at the stupidity that is bloated governement

I dunno if i have changed. I was always for Imperialism, and i was always for The U.S being Allied to us..
the backroom hasn't changed my views, its made me realise why i believe this, and it's taught me to respect the views of others before i get into a flame match. I hope it's taught the rest of you the same.

I think I have swayed a little on some subjects. Mostly I think I am a little better informed on what’s going on in other parts of the world. Although I don’t always agree, I like to know what people from other countries think about the hot topics of the day.

Not much change, core principles are just that.

Lots of useful new data and perspective, however. Love the strong Euro, Mid-East and vocal South Am voices that add here. Definitely worth the odd language mis-cue to get the insights.

I mean I used to be for NO welfare what so ever or social security. Now I think if it was given a bit of reform in the US it would be ok.

I'm much more conservative/right winged than I used to. Dunno if this is really caused by the backroom or simply because I'm getting older...

    Not anymore.
Ever since coming to the Org I realise that the American Right is doing a far better job at it.

And like Don, I'm only half kidding.

But seriously, yes my views have changed. Not any one in particular. Or overnight. But by a gradual expansion of my horizon, by reading some new insights, by getting some surprising perspectives.

My views are only changed by myself. The org had nothing to do with that. Of course others have influence on you, but it all comes down to the individual.

since i have been reading these boards - i no longer feel that marriage in general should be recognized by the state as anything other than a civil union. I am not sure how i feel about gun control - i do believe that people should have the right to defend themselves from government. my stance on abortion has hardened into total rejection of it - but my ability to accept compromise to save lives has increased. Religion/faith seem to be absurdities to me, but i understand where people are coming from who accept it.

I have learned that attacking anothers position outright is not a good way to argue unless you are literally a genius who has been studying a topic for decades.

i have learned to question my gut feelings

I used to be quite leftist when I first arrived, but ever since visiting the org and engaging in the furious debates here my views developed to be more centrist.

I don't get quite so fired up about politics as much these days...

My views have been somewhat more clearly defined, but that wasn't just the Org, school debates, Model UN, other discussions, and my own self-questioning have all played a much greater role. Though the Org has certainly had a place in all of it.

A former (quite conservatively) centrist falls to the Dark Side.

I've grown extremist. Though now that I'm starting in school debates I'll probably be falling Right back again towards the Middle Way. Because no one knows when I'll be forced to defend a conservative point of view with a passion worthy of a debate. lol

My views have been sharpened or clarified for me by introspective thought before posting. For instance, inspired by debates here, I gave a lot of thought to the idea of federations, nations, states, and cities. I reached the conclusion that, despite the drawbacks, I prefer city-states as the main world political division.

I have learned that the Conservative Right has some thinking people, and not just mindless sheep who are only driven by the need to feel good about their country.

Why these thinking people support conservative ideology is another debate, but some of the rightwing people here in the Backroom actually do use critical thinking. It's refreshing after hearing the irrational rhetoric conservatives on the street spout.
