    Hi Guys,

As a tabletop wargamer also (ie: playing with model soldiers!) I'm well aware of the resources available on the web for wargaming type hobbies.

Several days ago I E-mailed the owner, Alex Pil, of a site (Historical Flags for Wargamers) that has many great images pertaining to our period(s). Flag catagories on this site include medieval/dark ages/renaissance/crusader etc: and each catagory includes the flags of many nationalities that are too diverse to mention.

These images are some of the best available on the web, for our period, and are top quality - I'll stick my neck out on this!

Check the site and see for yourselves -http://www.angelfire.com/ak5/alexflags/

If you've checked the site above, you'll now know whatI'm talking about.

Anyway, today I received a reply from Alex gratiously allowing use of the images on his site for any wargaming purpose (tabletop or on-line) providing the images are not used for commercial purposes.

This provides a tremendous resource for this group, and it maybe a good idea for the Org to add a link to the 'Alex Flags' site in order to identify it as a potential resource for our modding of Flag images.

For legal purposes my E-mail, and Alex's reply, are included -

    Hello,

No problem for the non-commercial use of my flags. It's a pleasure to see that they can be used by other type of wargames.
    Regards
    Alex

Subject: Permission to use/modify your flags for computer wargames

    Alex,

I understand that the flag images on your site have been specifically
provided for the benefit of wargamers, for use as standards in tabletop
    model armies.

What is the copyright position in copying the same images for use in
    modified computer games ?

I am specifically talking about the game 'Medieval: Total War' whereby
I would like to copy some of your images and convert them from GIF
to LBM/BIF format's in order to replace some of the flag images currently
provided in the game, with your permission of course.

There is a very active 'modders' community who make amendments to
this computer game (and Shogun: Total War) for our own personal
amusement - and historical accuracy. No finances are involved,
but created images (and therefore images converted from your flags -
should permission be granted) may well be uploaded to the Org's
site ( www.totalwar.org ) for download by other interested modders.

Check the forum Editing / Mods / Patches at - http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/ubb/...assCookie=true
    for further clarification.

What are thoughts on this ? Your images would be a great resource for
us to use - especially the Burgundian, Medieval, Swiss and Crusader Flags.

Obviously, if you'd rather not grant permission for use in computer wargames
    I will understand.

    Thanks in advance,
    Alan

(BTW - what a great resource site - keep up the good work

Stage two, we say something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it.
Stage three, we say that maybe we should do something about it, but there's nothing we can do.
Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it's too late now.

He has!!! That was the reason of my post, to inform the group Alex had given us permission to use these Flags for our own modding purposes.
