Thread: No modding possible at all ?

Question No modding possible at all ?

Okay, I have a hard time believing this (because this would both not make sense and I think I've actually see people saying their mod work), but I've facts on my hands...

I've installed BI. All is right and works. Played it a bit, looked at the new things and all. Okay.
Now, I always make some slight modifications to my game : mainly, I change the colour of frontiers to be of a lighter shade than the main colour, which is much prettier to my eyes ; I also add a 5 % law bonus to each level of the governor's building.
Nothing game-stressing, as you can see.

But then, it's simply impossible to launch BI or RTW when I've made such very light modification

If I let all untouched, no problem, I can launch the game and play.
If I make these modification, I launch the game, then it suddendly CTD without error message a few second after the first picture appear.

It "works" consistently : if I overwrite my modifications with the original files again, it works again. If I then modify them, then it crash again. If I modify only the RTW files, only RTW crash, and BI works fine. And vice versa.

Of course, I reinstalled the game from scratch, thinking it was due to some corruption or else. Exact same thing happened again.

Is this a known bug ? Is this just me who have a problem ? Did I miss something ? Do I need to do something before modding ?

Help please, I can't stand playing with these ugly borders !

As I said in the first post, it's already been done. It was, in fact, the first modification made.

After several tries, it appears that modding the borders' colours allows the game to launch, but modding the buildings effect make the game crash.

Either there is a slightly different format in the text files, either the modding isn't happening.
I'll try to do some more tests tomorrow.

Okay, after some testing, it seems that the format has somehow changed just a bit.

I could make the game run by changing the place of the modification (putting the "law_bonus X" inside the brackets rather than just below). The "all factions mod" also no longer works, I suppose for the same reasons.
Guess we'll have to check by hand how to make all this works -_-

I guess you can´t make all factions playable because some are not existant in the beginning and appear later on, from what I heard(couldn´t play BI yet).

Nope, it was due to a different format (I was having the problem with RTW, not BI ^^).

There is some guy at the .net who "patched" the mod to make it BI-compatible. It works.
