I had exactly the same situation once, when re-installing M:TW.Originally Posted by jimmy
Ok, I'll try an install and won't patch up to 1.2, but that won't happen until tomorrow, haven't got time today.
Thanks, if that doesn't work, then I'll bump this topic.

the simple rules are .
1/uninstall then check for files left over they wil be in a activision folder if they are.
2/disable firewall,antivirus,spamkiller,privacy service software.
3/defrag hardrive
4/check disks for marks blemishes etc.
5/ [pray to your god whoever that is and install RTW/BI] and hopefully everything should be ticktyboo.
i aint trying to be smart because i have done it a few times myself. in haste you install a game. and thats without defraging or disabling antivirus software. but the biggest culprit tends to be when you forget to disable your antivirus software and this can cause you no end of problems aggro.
hope everthing sorts it,s self out
Well, my friend had the same problem and I recommended your advice (basically remove everything and install over a clean 1.0, and he said it worked for him) and it WORKED!!
Hopefully, it will work for me when I do it.
jimmy, I don't muck about with the anti-virus etc. I always manage to change settings or mess something up. But if the above doesn't work, I'll use your idea. Thanks mate.

i know its a pain but it usely pays dividends to take your time and just check various things. left over folders could be a problem [can someone confirm this] in the sense how the game installs its self to RTW so you could end up with problems there. firewalls/antivirus corrupt/interrupt installations as well.
any waylet us know how you get on.![]()
A bit to the side of the topic but I had CTD every time for trying to run RTW after installing BI. Even did a clean re-install over RTW1.0 and the same thing. BI seemed to work fine until I got a CTD when I won the battle that should have generated the RomanoBritish in my Saxon campaign. This got me thinking.
I reinstalled the Media Format 9 thingy that comes on RTW disc1 and have had no more problems.
I noticed after my uninstall there was still folders to manually delete for the game. Bit of a pain, nothing we cant handle though!
It's problem after problem for me.
Computer froze as I uninstalled RTW. And now I've lost the uninstall file, so I can't uninstall the game. This is really testing my patience, and my temper even more![]()

I did this, but it still doesn't work. I give up. I think I will play RTW 1.3.Originally Posted by jimmy
What version of DirectX are you running? You will probably need the latest version, which I think is 9.0c.
Aside from the memory leak (slowdown) I havent had any CTD at all but then I dont use any active antivirus or utility software.

Just one old soldiers opinion.
We need MP games without the oversimplifications required for 'good' AI.
RTW 1.3 didnt work, so I decided to try and install on another computer. 1.3 didnt work there, nor did BI. I truly give up now. I am back on 1.0!!!
