Thread: "Backporting" BI features into RTW

Default "Backporting" BI features into RTW

This may not sound exactly plenty of sense, but anyways asking shouldn't hurt...
Do you think it might be possible to get some BI features backported into vanilla RTW?

To be precise, I think that extra formations such as shield wall can benefit vanilla gameplay too, as well as make for interesting mods...

Seeing that RTW and BI got two different executables I fear the answer is "no", but getting some official answer from CA would be great

I doubt it; add shieldwall to the post BI RTW unit file and it is simply ignored. I suspect the solution is rather going to be modding the BI files into an RTW clone

    Ouch, that would be painful...
I suspect that BI doesn't take "phalanx" either...

I wouldn't be so sure about the phalanx, this works. I also experienced some spear units to be in a kind of permanent phalanx position...
Anyways, you can't use BI features in RTW because that would literally strangle sales of BI...
If that would be possible, CA would be highly stupid.

Perhaps I didn't explain it too well...
Of course that would be highly stupid, but IF one got both RTW and BI it would make sense to be able to use some BI stuff into the RTW campaign imvho.

Well some things can atleast in a way example would be animations BI has slower animations which simulate what modders have done using terrain moddfiers, the BIG difference is UNITs dont tire as fast this way. So if we can open the animations you can add those animation to a custom animation pack for RTW, I tried just using the whole pack but the units wont attack they just run sideways. lol. But they walk normal and slow.

Also there is a new Chariot javelin animation which is really useful and realistic, too bad they didnt do an elephant javelin, but there are other mods that will have that.

Shield wall and naming 1st cohorts are already possible in RTW, just in a different way than CA done, and in some ways a little better, unless they fix it in a patch.

Not necessarily I noticed the BI unit file has all the formations from RTW in it (new + old) while the 1.3 RTW file still only has the smaller RTW set. In BI there is not a problem adding the phalanx to a spear unit (admittedly I just tried it once, so I don’t know if there are issues when the unit fights etc.). More promisingly on the issue of modding BI back in time, I’m pretty sure SigniferOne felt his over-arm hoplite model was compatible with BI shield wall formation, but I haven’t tried it yet.
