    It doesn't

Or at least not what I had hoped for. I thought that it was similar to the Vikings in VI converting to christianity when their regions had enough christian believers. This allowed the Vikings to build churches (right?).

In BI you can do whatever you want, build the christian part of the techtree in one region and the pagan part in the other. The official religion of the faction leader or the settlement has no effect on what can be build. It only affects unrest and that is a missed opportunity IMO.

Oh, I see what you mean.

It would be a lot better that way.

You can tear down the religious structure in the town at any time and switch it to another. Just be prepared for a major drop in happiness if you're moving away from the majority religion of the town. I've seen it go from 130% to 40% just by demolishing and queueing up a religious building.

Yea, the reality isn't near as good as it looked in the advertisments.

Haven't looked through the building file yet, but the only thing I've found so far is that the everyone who can build christian shrines can make priests/monks. Some of them can also build monastaries (sp?) which give 5% happiness per level. And the Franks can build Paladins (just another heavy cav unit. Decent, but nothing special.)

Can barbarians convert to Zoarastrianism (sp?)?

And also, do I need a specific leader/governor?? to convert to a certain religion?

No, the regligious buildings in BI work just like in regular RTW. Just that now if you build a Christian shrine in a city that is 75% Zoroastrian is will cause problems. Essentially a factions has 3 or more temples a couple Pagan, Christian, and/or Zoroastrian. Building one precludes the other, in that one specific city.
If you havin' skyrim problems I feel bad for you son.. I dodged 99 arrows but my knee took one.

It is pretty straight forward. Each settlement has an official religion. The percentage of the population that is of a different religion to the offical one acts as a penalty to public order.

The official religion is determined in this order.

    1. If a shrine is built for a particular religion that is then the official religion.
    2. If there is no shrine then the governor's religion is the official religion.
    3. If the is no shrine and no governor then the faction leader's religion is the official religion.

Additionally if the governor and/or the faction leader's religion differs from the settlement's official religion you get additional penalties to public order...

Thus if you have a 90% pagan community and suddenly knock down their shrine and build a christian one, well you can see what will happen...
