    Default Paradox Entertainment

    Hello there,

I'm really surprised this one has not popped up here as yet, at least I didn't see it.

Well, some of you may know them or at least a few, like "Hearts of Iron","Hearts of Iron 2", "Europa Universalis 1" and "Europa Universalis 2", those should be the most renown.

Now what do you think of them? I am a huge fan of all Paradox Games games I played "HoI", "HoI2", "EU2" and "Crusader Kings".

    How are your opinions?

Edit: Not to forget "Victoria: An Empire under the Sun" though, also a great game, in my opinion!

Well... if you sort posts from the last month you'll find two of their games on the 1st page alone... They pop up regularly actually.
They do have great games though, attention to detail is amazing!

Im sure that victoria is one of the most debated game in the arena. I recall at least 3-4 threads (one or two started by myself) plus all those I dont remember.

Also, EU and HoI series have been throughly discussed.

What about crusader kings ? I'm thinking about buying it, and some feedback would be appreciated.

I've got CK EU2 and Vicky and they're all really excellent games. I think I prefer Vicky to the other two and EU2 to CK, but the detail and at the same time grand scale of them is incredible.

At the moment I'm playing a grand campaign starting in CK as the Duchy of Gwynedd and, using the save game conversion tools, I'm going to play through into EU2 and Vicky. 1066-1920. I'm in the 1320s at present so I've still got AGES to go yet.....

Ahh, yes...I just noticed the button on which I could set the timespan of threads displayed, sorry. Ahh well, at least this is the first thread in the last two weeks ;)

    As for CK:
It is a great game depending on what you play, it can get very frustrating at times, but I think if you really get into the game for a while, its worth every cent spent.

I for myself have started a game with my brother, he as sweden, me as croatia. I control nearly the whole of the mediterranean sea aswell as half of Europe and parts of Asia. My brother is invading England at the moment and he controls nearly all the north plus parts of spain and some tiny provinces in africa.

If you get this big into the game, it can be quite challenging micromanaging everything and its rather a question of gaming time than of actual skill to win the game. Sending 100k+ units into the fray requires organization and the game comes to a nearly standstill in multiplayer, sad but true.

All in all I have come to the conclusion that this single game with my brother was worth spending 50$ totally, I can only recommend it even though it gets annoying at times. :)

I don't believe I've played anything by them, except HOI2. But that game is awesome, it has devoured most of my time these past few weeks and now I rarely play it because I know if I get started I won't be off for at least a couple hours, sometimes more.

i've played EU, HoI and CK. i thought the other two were ok, but i really like CK. to me the paradox engine is better suited to dynastic management per se than an outright combat system. only thing is CK is not as stable as it should be, even with various patches. but i still play it whereas the others haven't interested me since the initial newness wore off.

Im a bit divided with CK. It gives a great feudal feel for the era as you are not in control of all your dukes. On the other hand I was put off by having to spend lots of time looking for people to marry and most importantly check stats for them. An alternative and IMO more fitting game title would be Medieval: Total Genetics.

i was originally worried about stats and marriages when i started playing ck too. then i just reached a point where i said screw it. i don't try to make the kwisatch haderach anymore. my only concerns for a bride is that she be younger than 30 and that no stat is lower than 5. doesn't matter is she is the 3rd daughter of the count of neuchatel, and has a harelip, is stressed and has the plague; and i'm the king of germany. that decision has made my games much more pleasurable.

my main criticism of the game has been the 2 hordes. and if you finally defeat them, they respawn later with their initial strength.

Vichy's got ALOT to do at once, but once I get my eco to 1000+ a day, alles ist gut.

Plus I've united Germany (for the most part) by 1840 before. As Nassau (ok the nassau part is a joke but I have united germany that early before, called Teh Blitz)

    Paradox games? Paradox Gems, perhaps?

Loved them... those I've played at least: EU2, Vicky, CK. HOI was the only P. game that didn't quite did it for me, but I've heard HOI2 is much better and I may give it a try when I find it on discount.

My favorite P. game is definitely Vicky - the level of detail is truly amazing and although it's very, very complicated and hard to master, it pays off.

CK is a great game, although in some ways (especially without the beta patches, those enhance the gameplay very effectively) it reminds me of a Bene Geserit simulation.
