Chechnya gained it's independance in 1991. One of the first thing they did was attack Ethnic russians in the province. So Russia tried to assassinate the Chechnan "President" but failed miserably. Chechnya wanted an Islamic state, they had pogroms against Christians and Jews. Russia tried to liberate them at first. The first Chechnan war was a complete failure, due to the idiocy of the Russian leadership and corruption. Way to many people died, Grozno was a complete failure, etc. So, a few years later, Russia gives up. Then, Chechnya, wanting their independant Islamic state, attacks Degostan (or somthing of the type), a Russian province. Russia roles in, wipes Chechnya off the map, and leaves.
You consider Chechnan Actions justified? Ever hear the story where the mother of a Russian soldier went to recover the body of her son. The Chechnans showed her a tape of him being beheaded, then sold his head and his body to her, seperatly.
Or maybe the one about the Priest held hostage by Chechnans. They told him to tell Russian troops to stop fighting. Instead, he blessed them. They murdered him.
Are these the actions of civilized people? The Chechans would line in the paths of tanks, looking unarmed. Not wanting to massacre civilians (worst mistake in Russian history), Russian tank commanders opened the hatches to ask them to move. They molotov cocktailed the tanks, wiping out over three armored columns.
Now, Chechnan rebels bomb apartment complexes, destroy schools, and hold entire theaters hostage. Real civilized. And real deserving of mercy.![]()
