Default Roman Sarm cav > Schol Pal?

    Very puzzling to me.

Lower tech and lower cost sarm cav seem to be superior in every regard to higher tech/higher cost schol pal. Am I missing something here?

Not only that, but the sarm cav are also fast moving? Why would anyone ever build a circus maximus? (other than to get additional generals, i guess)

Because as the ERE it grants you the two nice units of Equites Cataphractii and Clibanarii.

But yeah, it is quite interesting... The only two advantages te Scholae Palatinae has over the Samatians is a very slight advantage in morale and a heavier mass (5.5 compared to 4.75). But then again the Sarmatians have the unknown attribute of power_charge (we don't know what it does but we can all guess it). But are they really fast? They only have the medium mount which wasn't fast in RTW.

Well it makes sense for the Sarmatians to be better than any Roman cavalry...

Yes, but at higher price (1200 to 1100) and higher tech? (6400 gold building, 7 turn build time)

This is a common problem with the total war series. In most strategy games, there's a rush to tech because high tech gives you a significant advantage. In the TW series, almost every high level building (markets, roads, public health... only exception is perhaps temples) is not even close to worth the cost....

If you have the highest level of port then the highest level of market is more than worth it. You can double the profits easily.

But it seems the Sarmatians should really be the better, tech-wise, unit. Or at least the Scholae Palatianae should not be available to the WRE.

I find Sarmatian faction is a joke. They have this Virgin units and nobles which is all too much strength. Bosphoran infantry too, looks like CA help them out.

I think the correct course here for CA would have been to make it worth your while to build the Circus Maximus because you would then have the ability to train the Scol Pal at a CHEAPER rate and also at a lower upkeep cost even with lower stats.I feel this would better reflect the advantages of hiring native troops as opposed to relying on foreign Sarm Cav.Although these troops would be available to you earlier and would have better stats they would be VERY expensive to maintain as their loyalty would be to your purse and not to you as a leader. Then it would make sense to invest in the Circus Maximus to train native troops loyal to you at a lower upkeep and with only slightly lower stats etc, etc, blah blah blah.
