Default An old recipe with new tools

Got RTW+BI after the positive feedback and started fiddling around with modding...
While I've got a "big project" in mind about bringing RTW into BI I'm still a noob on RTW modding, so I'm starting small...

After spending some times with tutorials I've just successfully done my first import

That's how hoplites should be imho, a solid shield wall rather than a macedonian phalanx...

Yeah, but isn't it a problem with thier secondary weapon?

Have to agree they look perfect.
So you can import Shield Wall to RTW 1.3? Good prospects here I would say. A lot of units would do good to have Shield Wall, most Warbands woul fit to have it. Perhaps even the German Spear Warband.

The secondary weapon works fine, even in shield wall they switch to swords when flanked...
You cannot import shield wall to 1.3, what I've done is importing greek hoplites to BI and having a lot of fun at it

Next import: Spartan Hoplites, test formation will be schiltron (you know, thermophilae)

    And now, for some cinematics...

"Old that bridge at all costs!"

    "The wall crumbles"

    "Spartan last stand"

Note: while in shield wall units will switch to secondary weapon, this won't happen in schiltrom, so it might not be a good idea to use it in some scenarios.

I think it would thus be better to remove the secondary weapon. I 'weakens' the shield walled units in a less than perfect fashion. I suspected that much.

Schiltrom won't change because of the dense and special way they have to stand. If you note how a Schiltrom fights, then you will find many similarities to the phalanx. The soldier don't suffer the interruption during a fight (when a soldier jerks back when hit), he will just keep attacking.

Btw... I don't suppose that the Phalanx ability can be imported to BI?
I was binning to wonder about a total import of RTW to the BI part so that RTW can benefit from hordes and the two new formations and all the other great stuff.

Phalanx works fine into BI, the only thing I suspect it won't work is Senate and the special alliance between romans (which wouldn't have been bad to have for ERE and WRE imho), but you'll need an expert modder with a lot of time or CA to find it out.

To Zarax: Thats because hoplites and a macedonian phalanx isn't the same thing, it's rather that ca simplified them to work the same way.
