Thread: How the flowers do you get the Generals to upgrade?

Default How the flowers do you get the Generals to upgrade?

Hi folks. I finally managed to get the 1.2 patch (just in time for 1.3 I see. Pfft!) and I'm a little ticked off. The General's Bodyguard upgrade bug was supposedly fixed, yet I just upgraded my German capital to the High King's Hall, and nothing! What gives? Will I ever get the friggin' upgrade?!

For anyone who could help, I'm using the Winzipped form of the patch.

220 BC, the generals bodyguard upgrade comes with the Marian reforms.

Most annoying change ever. Many of us who win our campaigns well before 220 never get a chance to use ANY of the pm units, not just the bodyguards.

I've modded my campaign so that all non-Roman factions have their upgraded generals' bodyguards from the very beginning, while the Romans still have to wait for the reforms. Seems to be working so far and has had the added bonus of nerfing Egypt to a degree (no more free chariots with their insanely high auto-calc value).

In v1.3, marian reforms occur immediately after imperial palace is built (no more 220bc trigger).

Also, all other facton generals get upgraded with marian reforms too, not with highest general building (regardless what in-game help says).

As long as the imperial palace is in Italy, player 1.

And as for finsihing before 220 BC.. just play a slower campaign.

I don´t know what to make of that, on the one hand it´s good, for it makes things predictable. On the other hand, the Marius reform could happen very early, since Rome (the city) starts out with one, doesn´t it?

    Rome starts with Proconsuls Palace.
And I remember that in 1.2 senate could not trigger reforms, so I guess it's still true in 1.3

Anyway good thing with this is more challenging game if playing non-romans, and no more games finished before reforms.

A senate-built IP doesn´t trigger the reforms? That´s too bad, because that assumes that any of the other factions manages to build one eventually. In my current game (playing the Germans) they´re not even close to it and it´s already 227bc. The inability of the AI to get the cities to the highest level is much more preventing the reforms than the date trigger, as far as I can observe.
