Thanks, Captain Fishpants. I think CA have built up a lot of goodwill here by patching vanilla up to BI standards for those who have not bought the expansion. Promising to look in to a further patch only amplifies that.![]()

This does sound to me that there will be up to one full patch (like 1.2 was).
So that developers need to indetify all crucal bugs first (so that things like save/load won't get missed), and also analyze are there enough crucal bugs to warrant another patch.
Of course, the biggest danger of such approach is making something that works bugged in the process (aka battle difficulty levels with 1.2).
P.S.
Personnaly I think that fire at all for pillums and naval invasion issues are crucal enough to warrant a hotfix on their own.
BUG-FIXER, an unofficial patch for both Rome: Total War and its expansion pack
Good news from CA on this. Personally I don't mind waiting if the end result is a thoroughly researched and tested patch which leaves RTW as the first-class classic game it's so close to being.
Sounds good Mike. Now we just have to hope the 'fix'-lobby will win the debate at CA HQ.![]()
Agreed. Those alone are important, the rest is basically things we can either ignore or fix ourselves. So please... Fix the two of them.Originally Posted by player1

Can't you fix the pilum issue in the formations text file? Haven't tried yet, but I know Darth's formation mod somehow turns that on and off.Originally Posted by player1
He tried and failed.

Personnaly I think, when money is tight, but patch quality is needed, that best method is two patch release.
First patch should be big one and include all major code fixes needed.
The second one should be smaller, fixing only in code things that first patch broke (or missed). It should also include data-file changes, like unit balance and things similar to my bugfixer.
That way, there is much lower risk that last patch would leave some big bug around. Bug code fixes are done in first patch, and second is only used for cleaning up, and doing changes, like data-fixes, that can't endanger the code.

Yeah Capt. Fishy! Thanks.

Mark Twain 1881"If you don't want to work, become a reporter. That awful power, the public opinion of the nation, was created by a horde of self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditch digging and shoemaking and fetched up journalism on their way to the poorhouse."
bleugh, the archers are now to weak, i fired with 2 units at a other unit killing 1 soldier...that are 80 x 133 arrows one kill....THATS NOT RIGHT, no matter how weak, no matter how bad the unit is. you cant spray a unit with 100000 arrows and kill one soldier
We do not sow.
After installing 1.3 the game suddenly ignored my adjustments to preference.txt (pre-dating the patch install). I tried altering minimal UI, banners and arrow markers, but the game always uses the default setting even though preference.txt says otherwise.
I have multiple installs of R:TW, but I don't think that is related. Anybody has any idea what is causing this?
EDIT: I should add that I have Darth Formations 8.0 installed. However, the patch did not overwrite this and I do not see how this is related to preference.txt.

I managed to install the patch ok. All looks good, but....
I had previously modded my RTW to make all factions playable. Now post v1.3, if I try to play one of the "unplayable" factions (like Spain) then I get a CTD.
I've checked the Desc_strat file, and it still looks playable.
Any ideas what I can do about this?![]()
Hi - the post right before yours was pointing in the right direction - check out the following link to make all factions playable again:
http://www.twcenter.net/downloads/db/?mod=672
Just ignore the bits of it for BI - all the RTW stuff will work on RTW1.3, and as SomeNick mentioned, it includes faction descriptions as well as maps in the start screens.
Always remember to back up any files you are about to replace though, just in case.
