So if I install this patch, will I be able to play my 1.2 saved games still?

No
You can't play old saves if installing 1.3, neither if installing BI expansion.

Yeah Capt. Fishy! Thanks.

Well, I downloaded the patch - twice. First time the dl finished and the zip was corrupted. Seconded time I could unzip it and read the readme. But when I run the exe I get an InstallShield Wizard error window talking about closing running programs (as clean as a Windows machine can be), emptying my temp folder (done that, only 2 perf files still in use) and checking my connection (that just downloaded 104 MB!) and mentioning error code -6001.
The exe file is 102 MB (106,955,778 bytes).
Has anybody experienced any similar difficulties with the patch?

Yep, I'm getting exactly the same error message - that's after running disk cleanup, defragmenting, running a full virus scan and disabling my anti-virus program (which used to interfere with patch 1.2).Originally Posted by R3dD0g

bleugh, the archers are now to weak, i fired with 2 units at a other unit killing 1 soldier...that are 80 x 133 arrows one kill....THATS NOT RIGHT, no matter how weak, no matter how bad the unit is. you cant spray a unit with 100000 arrows and kill one soldier
We do not sow.
After installing 1.3 the game suddenly ignored my adjustments to preference.txt (pre-dating the patch install). I tried altering minimal UI, banners and arrow markers, but the game always uses the default setting even though preference.txt says otherwise.
I have multiple installs of R:TW, but I don't think that is related. Anybody has any idea what is causing this?
EDIT: I should add that I have Darth Formations 8.0 installed. However, the patch did not overwrite this and I do not see how this is related to preference.txt.

Maybe because you modified preferences for original RTW instead if those in "bi" folder?

i think he did.

Err... no. Because there is no BI folder. I don't have the expansion. I am talking about the patched version of vanilla R:TW.Originally Posted by player1

I think it's possible that original pref. file is not used anymore with 1.3.
Currently due to disk failure crash I can't confim this (MAXTOR damed you! 3rd disk in 2 years dead), but I think there is preference folder right in your RTW folder.

You are absolutely correct, Player1. There is a preference map and a preference.txt in.
Thank you very much.

This might help with the 1.3 install problems. Helped me...

There is also a patch type file @ TWC that unlocks all 1.3 RTW factions and puts some nice descriptions for factions where there are none. But can't find the link :(
You can start here though>> http://www.twcenter.net/downloads/db/?cat_id=1
Hope this helps![]()

I managed to install the patch ok. All looks good, but....
I had previously modded my RTW to make all factions playable. Now post v1.3, if I try to play one of the "unplayable" factions (like Spain) then I get a CTD.
I've checked the Desc_strat file, and it still looks playable.
Any ideas what I can do about this?![]()
Hi - the post right before yours was pointing in the right direction - check out the following link to make all factions playable again:
http://www.twcenter.net/downloads/db/?mod=672
Just ignore the bits of it for BI - all the RTW stuff will work on RTW1.3, and as SomeNick mentioned, it includes faction descriptions as well as maps in the start screens.
Always remember to back up any files you are about to replace though, just in case.

Is there a 1.4? I heard talks about it on the modding board.

Unstickied, as the file now (and has been for some time) resides in the "Useful RTW Links" sticky thread, freeing up space in the Colosseum. However, by all means, continue the discussion
Patch 1.2 made it possible to provoke early civil war through assassination attempts on other Roman faction. It seems to have gone. Is that correct?
Please could someone answer?
I think the ability to provoke eaerly civil war that came with 1.2 is probably gone, but if someone could confirm it, it would be good.
