Good day gentlemen, I'm new to MTW and have a couple of questions in regards to modding. After reading quite a few of the posts in this forum I have a "reasonable" understanding of how things work, but need to clarify some simple things.. bear with me..

    1. Is it possible to add a completely new unit to the game without modifying an existing one? New name, new stats etc?
    2. Can the main campaign map be changed.. borders, place names etc?

    Thank you sirs.

Probably a more useful question is : which files do I attack do modify units, and how do I duplicate units so I can retain the originals?
Can the names be changed in the crusaders_unit_prod11.txt file? Is this also were I can mix and match the base unit with different mounts and weapons?

    I can answer question one.

The answer is yes. Additional units can be added.

The process is fairly straight forward and you can mix and match shields/weapons with base figures. However the icon depictions of units in the strategic map and battle maps (but not the actual fighting soldier) require the use of a paint program. So for those depictions, I am copying existing bifs.

Tomorrow night, I am going to create some new units and try to record each step. I have done a couple now but haven't written down the process completely. I will see what I can do tomorrow.

Check some of the recent threats. You will see some discussing the process. None complete though.

Thanks. With a bit of poking around I found out how to rename the factions and any units. Do you know if its possible to rename the provinces as they appear on the map? Or are the names on the campaign map graphic images and not text?

i guess editing the borders is possible but i havent figured out how yet. u find the map in the folder textures/campmap. its a picture so the text ist fixe. the borers ar determined by a *.lmb file. should be able to edit. also the border-infos in the early, late and high.txt files must be edited. if someone finds out the whole process, post it here plz.
