I've been told the same thing at work but it's because I know getting stressed doesn't help, it just hinders, it's far better just to solve the problem and move on. I work with a lot of service people and this seems to be the attitude they take as well and as the decisions we make at work actually do involve life and death then someone who stressed would be a liability.
I don't think I've ever been stressed, not much anyway, it all depends on your outlook on life, but I am definately of the old school of suck it up and move on, but obviously this isn't the same for depression. Although having never had depression I wouldn't know what it's like.
I think that some people are just better equipped to deal with life than others and you just have to step back and remind yourself what is important.
