For all that matters, I'm only playing short games when the open beta gets released, I didn't applied to the closed beta because I am not willing to test-drive 200-turn campaigns especially when there will be a new version, an upgrade, a quick-fix right around the corner, sadly, no Marius legionaries for me.

So, I think it would be nice to have mini-campaigns on "mini"-maps, such as a 150-province map of Gaul hehe, but I guess it would be far too much work and far too much hassle for such a "mini", short, casual campaign.

It's a good idea, but the hard-codeness of RTW and the amount of necessary work might hamper it a tiny wee bit.

Honestly, it is pretty much unnecessary.

EB is so dramatically different that playing as each different faction is like playing a whole new game and a whole new experience.

Playing as the Casse, for example, feels incredible secluded from the rest of the map. So much so that it almost seems like I am playing VI. Trying to unite the British tribes is hell. And impossibly fun.

The new victory conditions for each faction really produce a new feel, too. No longer do you just have to capture 50 provinces and hold Rome. Now some factions just need to raid certain cities and hold specific others.

I think when the OB comes out, you will find that what we have is much better. It's like having a minimap campaign with the option to expand further. Each region is that unique now.

will EB be difficult? or at least, do we have the option to make it difficult?

with any faction in rtr when I attack in the first turn and win the first battle, there are seldomly any problems from there. the factions labeled very hard are in my opinion medium. the only difficult mod I've ever played was the Roma mod for rtr 5.4, very satisfying.

sometimes you'd think why isn't there an option to make it easier

I agree with what you say, all i meant was that you could have even more regions on an island like Britain, even representing minor villages and towns, surely there were loads more settlements with a 400+ population in ancient britain?

While I do agree it's fairly unnecessary, I've still considered doing one with the British isles for sake of how fun it would be; factions would include the Goidils (the more or less united early Gaels, in three factions {of Iberian, Gallic/Belgic, and British extraction, respectively}, with similar unit sets composed of Goidilic soldiers, and native non-Celtic/non-Iberian levies), Irish Belgae (Those not joined to the Goidils; most of them inhabitted Connacht, and divided into two main power groups; they were more like 'traditional' Celts), the southern Gallic-British tribes/kingdoms, midland British tribes/confederacies (and the kingdom of the Brigantes), the Cambrian tribes, and a few Caledonian tribes.

Could have the Romans appear mid-way through the game (Julius Caesar's invasion), or start in-between the invasions, though that period would be less interesting (much of Britain was under the ostensible rule of a single king; all Britons south of modern York were essentially under the rule of the kings of the Catuvellauni, though not without at least some dissodance, however, these kings' coinage is spread across this whole region); but plenty of chance for 'emerging' factions if BI was used, due to rebellions caused by pro-Roman and anti-Roman elements in the kingdom's government (which is what led to the second Roman invasion anyway). However, an even earlier start would be a fun, unexplored period. Maybe around 300 - 200 BC; probably toward the latter; the main confederations and kingdoms had mostly appeared to have some consolidation of power, but had plenty of fighting left to do.

End it at the second Roman invasion maybe, or even a touch later; such a small area would allow us a lot of unit models to employ (each culture group would share mainly the same units, with any unique, special units probably being more based on specific regions of origin), so a wide range of things could be covered.

I believe, once the core of EB is completed, such expansions would be much easier to realize and make more sense.

Yes, I think this kind of regional campaigns with a focus on a culture would be a very nice addition after EB is completed.

It's something I was hoping to see more of once the modding community got going, since RTW seems well-suited to such a gamestyle.

Yes, what Ranika has written is exactly what I envisaged, but of course only after EB has been released
