    Default BI Units Question...

There were a couple of things missing in RTW that detracted from the ability to put in certain historical units. I'm wondering if these have been addressed with BI?

The first one that comes to mind is having thrusting spear armed units that also carried a throwing spear or two (normal for some of the Germanic and Gaulic tribes.) The skeletons/animations were not set up to handle this because the either the throwing spear, or the thrusting spear would be backwards and look silly.

The second one was the lack of javelin armed crew on elephants/chariots.

Are there any units like this?

The Frankish (and Saxon, I think) Levy Spearmen throw spears prior to charging. Personally, I just set them on fire at will and let them defend, something they do reasonably well.

I believe that the Celtic charioteers throw spears, but they are the only charioteers in BI. There is only one unit of elephant available, and it uses arrows.

Thanks. It might be possible to swap the crewman to an elephant... Sounds like they have new skeletons that make this work properly. I don't understand why they didn't do it for RTW originally, but it is good to hear it has been addressed.

A lot of units now have spears AND javelins. But none fight overhanded, but that has been covered in our discussions.

And I was most pleased to see the Celtic Chariots use javelins (though they only carry 6 and have a low attack, both I have modded up of course).

I'm looking forward to the javelin elephant.

Hadn't seen that, it was posted 3 months after I quit playing RTW. Might have to see if I can pull in the animations. It would help me get rid of some of the sillier units in the game...
