    Default I need gov'ners ! (RTW)

So due to some bad luck and a few losses I am short of family members/generals/gov'ners.t'

It's early in the game and I have a few cities that are sitting there and can't build because they don't have a gov'ner, apparently.

Is there anything I can do?

    b

    p.s.

Sometimes, even if I have a gov'ner, I can't build anything. What's up with that?

If you have a governor and can't build, it's probably because you don't have enough money.

For the towns without a governor, you need to open the town's construction menu and uncheck the automanage boxes - there should be two, one for buildings and another for units.

    Hope that helps.

Try and get some Men of the Hour. Or, just wait for some sons to be born. or hope for some marriages.. That should boost your family numbers.

I haven't had a man of the hour yet in "Barbarian Invasion," now that you mention it. I'm not sure at all that this feature has been eliminated or reduced in BI.

I have had it, once, in BI

Don't count on it , when playing a large faction i.e. the ERE /WRE , they start with lot's of family members.

I've had a few MOTH in my ERE campaign as my original family members didn't procreate. Note in BI 1.4 MOTH start with 0 loyalty, making them useless - fixed by Bug Fixer.

I've had a bunch. My family members were dying like flies from a plague of WRE (I think) assasins. In some cases they'd die the turn after conversion from a successful captain and I'd wonder what happened. Then I looked at the family tree and noticed how they died!

Does not having enough population prevent you from building? If so, what level of population do you need? I have one settlement I just conquered that has only a little over 400 people. I have a governor and lots of $$, but I can't build anything there. And it's not that buildings are "greyed out" on the construction screen; they just aren't there...

If you have plenty of money why don't you bribe some of your enemies' family members? In my last game I recruited three generals from Gaul and they where excellent in the field.

Quite possibly the settlement already has the maximum amount of buildings constructed for it's settlement level. At 400, there's not much of anything you can build except maybe a farm, a trader, and a few other things. Wait until you hit 2000 population and build the keep's upgrade, and you'll unlock a lot more stuff to build.

To need more gov'ners, you need more family members rite? So that means you are suffering from the lack of family members rite? The things is that in Rome: Total War, you cannot kill a faction by getting rid of ALL family members, no, no, no, that's impossible and its cheating! (Just imagine usin assasins to get rid of a faction thru getting rid of family memebers!) What will happen is that sooner or later, the computer will start mass adopting, so that means you have lots and lots of adopted sons. Don't be choosy, just welcome all the adopted sons and sooner or later, you will recieve a magnificent son! Hope this help,
    at your service, LLB.

You can eliminate a faction by killing (in battle, by assasination or natural causes) the faction leader and heir in one go.

If you have no building options showing in your build que the you've built everything that size of town can build.

There's a spot on your build que page for each town that shows you your current population and also there's a spot on that same page that shows you the population you must reach before your next town/city size increase.

Once you've hit the necessary population for that town to grow you'll get a notice that your town has expanded. Build the new town hall/palace upgrade. Once that is built all the building options available to that size town/city will become available to the build que. Completing the new town hall/palace upgrade will also lessen unrest somewhat.

If you find you really need to speed up a particular town/city's growth speed, you can recruite peasants from your other towns/cities and send them to the town/city you need to grow faster and disband them there. That, in effect, moves population from the recruiting cities and resettles that population in the target city.
