    Default Belly Button

I don't know what advancements EB has made in regards to the naval aspect of the game, but I think you should take a look at Naval Mod for RTR for some inspiration. There are a lot of great ideas there that truly enhance the naval experience and just really make a difference.

    loL!

I would love to see a naval warfare aspect to the RTW. It would compliment RTW so well it'd make playing a real treat. Some combat systems of other games I would suggest are from games such as 'Age of Sail', 'Port Royale', and even 'World of Pirates' in a basic way. But without the cannons of course :O Ballistae and catapults would be the ranged combat.

Navies could be treated more as a definite impact in game and make carrying armies even more dangerous. Also blockading would be lots more fun. I don't like how enemy ships can get away from ports even when blockaded.

Also landing troops against setlements could make for some very cool battles.

    Just a few thoughts..

I think it is a great idea to have the sea battle aspect of the game. There is already soldier on the ship for example like 80 mens and it is those unit who will be doing battle; so if a whole fleet is around 1k men then it will be a big battle just like the land one. What they can do is that make it like land battle start with a zoom in and then the pre battle speech. After that showing ship sailing just like a whole unit moving and then when it get close enought to the enemy fleet, both side men jump aboard the ship and fight just like a battle in the wall.

There will be no tactical ship combat in EB. That is a practical impossibility.

I don't know much about the Naval mod, and I don't really have time to research it. Our navy system is very different from vanilla. Perhaps you can let me know why you think the Naval mod is good, and we might be able to incorporate some of it into EB. I doubt it will make it into the OB, though.

I don't mind that there is no way to control naval battles, what realy annoys me is when ships move right through a blockade...
Im sure there will be enough fighting in EB already anyway!

    Naval Battles! sounds wonderful,
but i think so much work is needed ,that it would be A New Game, not just a mod!

Well the main thing about it I like is the fact that it makes ports and control of the sea economically important and a viable way of making income, and reducing the enemies.

That has the readme and whatnot. Pretty short, shouldn't take too long to read through.

Annoying things, for me, involving ships:

    1. AI has so many small fleets, one ship fleet, that literally chokes the straits and u cannot pass them

    2. ability to "blokade" a port with just one ship - just think at the idea, blockading the whole Cartagina port with a roman bireme, even the rats on that roman bireme would laugh to death

And I also agree with people that say "navy battle belong to another game" thing ... if that would be implemented, u would expect graphics to be at least of the level of, let's say, "Pirates of the Caraibean" ...

go ask CA hire Akela guys and problem is solved

You must admit it would be pretty cool to see your ship crash into an enemy ship and watch your men leap onto it and start fighting, or maybe even just shoot flaming arrows at your enemies.

It would also be cool if every now and then a gigantic whale would show up and just wipe out everything.

theres something very relaxing about sailing.

Well just like the ground units, one "ship" is probably representative of a squadron in your fleet or some such. Anyway a bunch of ships.

A slightly expanded naval portion of the game would be most welcome, allowing a little more strategy other than pure weight of numbers. Unfortunately RTW is probably a limited platform in that regard.

    BTW, excellent topic title!

    Thank you sir .

So did any of the EB members check out the naval mod readme or anything? Any words on that?

I will repeat; I don't have time to do research on this, and I suspect that goes for most EB members. If you would like us to consider adding new features, you should post relevant suggestions here, not ask us to go looking for them.

I have looked, and I see nothing that I would consider as valuable as you seem to think it is, so you're going to have to be more specific.

    lol!

Yeah, nothing too fancy, just a simple battle at sea with some nice looking ships (there's what, maybe 20 different ship types?) , ships having units etc at random on them (or organised prior), a bit of archer and balistae, catapult fire then grapple and board with troops available, or ram...

Maybe even just a flag ship fitted out at beginning of engagement to represent the fleet in battle.

At least the battle field would be easy to render : )
With storm effects if present etc.

Maybe even with a whale/sharks passing underneath the ships occasionaly or schools of fish :O

Although ports would need be a lot more detailed etc.

I think it'd be very cool. Approaching 'awesome'.

And thanks for the link to that mod. It is excellent. Great work on that!

Well if you don't see anything as being too valuable, it must mean there's better stuff already implemented, so good news! Basically it was just the general idea of the naval aspect of the game meaning more and naval control and blockades meaning more, and just yeah. Guess you guys got it covered .
