    Lightbulb Anyone still playing.

    Anyone still playing online, whenever I get on it's about like, no one their playing VI. Hmm?

    How much do people play.

    During GMT evenings you can normally find up to 50 players online, but I suppose that's not really your time zone, so your chances of finding players might be harder.

    Hey GeneralTildor.. Hey Ducky..

    What time are u playing usually.. Im there most nights playing. Im in UK time and at this hour still many ppl on also few clan members like Bears and Hunters. Gimme a shout in the lobby. I use the name Page_Kaizen there.

    Lol I had no idea, that was you Arkell! I knew you were turning a Page, but I thought you were going to keep your name (Page_Arkell). We'll congrats m8 (better late than never). It's great Gawain has company now.

    Yep, Bears, Heerbanns, Aggony, RTKs, and of course, the Hunters, along with a number of ronin, both new and old. Even a few vets undercover sandbagging.

    One issue is the wide variety of maps and mods being played. There are the Napoleonic games, and of course La Recon has made a big comeback (La Recon is nice 'cause it resides alongside VI and one can switch back and forth between eras), even an STW for VI battle once in a while. I've seen VDM? testing a mod called Dux, but don't think its available for mass consumption yet.

    The maps are also an issue. They make the game more interesting but frequently a newbie can't join 'cause they don't have the mappacks.

    So I urge players to dl the La Recon Mod and mappacks, maybe install the STW ofr VI mod.

    There is 50-100 playing vi on a daily basis, but this is usualy only during GTM evening time 6pm to midnight. On the weekends and Friday there are even more and im seeing more and more old faces returning to vi :).

    I erge all those with even a momentary incling for vi mp to come along and have a few games, youl wonder why you ever left :P.

    The vi lobby is more diverse nowadays than it was, with many new players and veterans there regularly. The variety of different game settings is larger than it was a year ago aswell. Rather than just the classic 10 steppe games which used to dominate the lobby people are also playing vikings, la recon, low florrins (6-8k), and playing on many of the great new maps provided by the Mizu latest mappack.

    Yes VDM are in the Process of developing a new mod for multiplayer named Dux. It is based upon BKB's super mod campaign and will feature, amongst other things a dozen new factions and 100s of new units. However, as ichi stated it's not quite ready to be released yet. Alexandros will tell you some more about it closer to the public release. n the meantime ,We are testing it and anyone wishing to help is welcome provided they dont mind experiencing an unfinished product :P. It will make life easier you msn messenger as we are constantly updating the unit prod file.

    Well, it's deceptive because MTW and MTW/VI use the same lobby, and you also have lots of mods being used. Last time I was there to play some casual games, I waited for an hour and couldn't get into a game.

    Well it was always so anyway. Mainly intense clan competition was there to keep "normal" VI (esp. steppe) games going after the game started getting old or there was no waiting for an expansion/further patch -though there weren't anything severely annoying issues to resolve in the first place(that is mp-wise after 2.01).
    Ofcourse nowdays I'd place the lobby numbers close to 70-80 during peak, with the only truly unaccessible games to those not having more than 15 minutes to spare, are the NTW and MTW ones, so that places the estimation more towards a maybe optimistic 40-50 . Also do remember that due to the Knights of Valour competition, participants often host practice 4v4s which get quite quickly filled up when there's activity around and it's not unusual for the odd player or two or three having to wait more than 20-30 minutes, given that 1v1s and 2v2s were never very popular.

    The ineffectiveness of spears in v2.01 is pretty annoying. We asked for a price reduction on spears prior to the release of v2.01, but LongJohn wouldn't do it. He also took arbalesters out of high era which is not what was asked. We asked that the pavise be removed from high to make the shootout more decisive since he had already refused to make ranged units more effective in general. The requests were based on thousands of multiplayer battles, so it's not as though we didn't know what we were talking about. The whole thing is so frustrating that I don't know a single player who beta tested for CA over the past 4 years that is willing to ever beta test for them again.

    As you know, the game was designed with 10k mp battle in mind;)
    There was always the option of lowering the florin level/enforcing some rules...but it's also clearly visible that when all those upgrades get into the game, the whole balancing process is more difficult than it initially seems.

    Plus, how would the (traditionally small) mod-loving community survive heh

    Spears are only overpriced for 10k games. But if you bring the florrin level down to 7k they become very useful even as a main line unit, as do foot knights which are another type made redundant by all the upgrades.

    Tho having developed com mod last year you will know this already ;)

    The game works better at 7k, but already at 6k upgraded swords are beating cav. Swords are underpriced.     I agree that some infantry are generally underpriced. However, in 6k, to upgrade swords to a level where they would beat or even match cavalry would mean you are sacrificing the core strength of a different part of your army, and so in most situations i would not be worth it.

    Yes, in 6k the shock value of cavalry is usually what can cause a chain rout, not just 4 cmaav2. And to block a fk, it's preferable to use a 400 fl. spear unit. But many units simply aren't that suitable to any type of florins.

    in the end just use horse archers, they are cheap, can act as both archers and light cav, they can avoid inf until they tire or get shot too much and can be used easily in groups of 3-4 --> easily best unit type in game :P

    Spear units do very well in conjunction with cavalry. Keep your spear units flanks protected and they won't rout even when their morale is 2. Orderfoot can do alot of damage to enemy cav when used put on "engage at will."

    Stop being such wusses and use them more often. It takes a better player to use them anyway.

    Orderfoot are too expensive. The spear should not be more than half the cost of the cavalry it beats. In MTW v1.0, the orderfoot cost 350 and a chiv knight cost 875. That's the right cost relationship. In addition to that, the spear was more effective against cav in MTW v1.0. This was screwed up in MTW v1.1 when the orderfoot went to 400 and the chiv knight to 675, and the cav got pushbacks on the spears. A pushback gives +6 combat points to the cav. That's a 300% combat bonus to the cav on the next combat cycle.
