There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford
My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.
I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

They're incomparable. They lived in different times, different places and under different conditions. Furthermore, "better" is not a criterium to compare them. Better in what? for what?

Crazy topic! The question is: What is good in this context? I agree that you cannot compare them. But if you have to do it, list the pros and cons (Charlemagne: created a big empire, spread Christianity, defeated the Moslems, protected the church - depopulated most of Europe, occupied the countries of the neighbors ...). Then in a summary just say that one cannot compare them, that both were big charismatic leaders in their times ...
You should get through with that.
