    Default mormon histroy X?

ok i have questions. mormons have been calling me like crazy, and coming to my house, so i decided to find out what they believe.its strange in my opinion.

the Book of Mormon, the Nephites are a people descended from or associated with Nephi, a prophet who traveled with his family from Jerusalem to the Western Hemisphere circa 600 B.C. at the urging of God. The Nephites, initially a righteous people, eventually fell into wickedness, and they were utterly destroyed by their rivals the Lamanites circa A.D. 400.

a Lamanite is a member of one of three main tribes described in the book. The other two tribes are the Jaredites and the Nephites. The Lamanites, together with the Nephites, are described as descending from the family of Lehi, a wealthy Jewish merchant, who traveled from the Middle East in 600 BC to the Americas by boat. Nephites descended from the youngest son, Nephi, while Lamanites descended from the elder brothers, Laman and Lemuel.

According to the Book of Mormon there were many interactions between the Lamanites and the Nephites. Activities from war to trade to proselytizing were used by each one on the other to varying degrees and at different stages in their histories. The actual ethnic make up of each group seems to have shifted as the story progresses. The Lamanites initially are given a darker skin color from God due to their rebellion. At one point in the book the Lamanites and Nephites coexist for two centuries in peace (from circa AD 30 until 230) Shortly after this period of peace and cooperation between the two begins to decline along with a reestablishment of economic class distinction in both groups. Some time after AD 400 the Nephite culture and most if not all of its people were destroyed in a series of large wars between the Lamanites, Nephites and a renegade organization of robbers known as the Gadianton Robbers

ok,is ANY of this backed by ANYONE(like scientist, or archealogist)?because personally it smells. i would like to know if this has any real historical basis.

    No.
But there is in some of it’s players…

Many years ago I read part of the book of Mormon and found it rather silly. It was, and indeed still is, my opinion that it is a fabrication with no basis in fact. However this is a faith so therefore no facts are required. Just the ability to believe is sufficient.

IIRC all this was 'revealed' to Mr. J. Smith, says it all really.
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

This is probably a question that should be answered by Pindar as he himself is a member of the church.
However, I have studied the Christian denomination that popularly is called Mormons all though it is officially called by another name.
The book of Mormon (BoM) is an interesting book and as InsaneApache said it is a question of faith of whether you believe in its authenticity or not.
There is however an organization which is dedicated to investigate the claims of BoM. They have a website and are called FARMS. Some of the things they present is quite fascinating.
I even attended one or two seminars on ancient texts and scripture, where there was a lecture on BoM. According to those lectures, there is ancient lore in America that is suspiciously close to the BoM story.

In the front pages of BoM there are several testimonies written by men, testifying that they actually held the golden-plates that the BoM stories was translated from. Three of whom testified that an angel showed them the plates and spoke of the contents in them. Even though they fell from the church or were excommunicated they never went back on their testimonies.

Well morons have existed since the dawn of time, and I think there will always be morons, whatever you do, just as everywhere you go you will find morons. I have several morons in my class who are trying to convine people that it-s fun to be a moron, yet luckily no one listens.
Sorry, did you say morons or mormons? Sorry, I couldn't resist.
