    Default BI Questions

I am getting to know RTW better and am thinking about getting the BI expansion. What I'm wondering is, does the expansion have any form of copy protection? I know RTW has the SafeDisc. Since Sega took over CA, will it have the Steam protection, another SafeDisc, or something else?

Also, I already have the patch 1.3 installed on my copy of RTW. Will the expansion overwrite the patch; need a clean, unpatched install of RTW; or will it detect the patch and not need to install it?

Sega isn't Valve, so no its not the steam protection. I think both RTW and BI use SafeDisc. As for the expansion it'll probably overwrite the same files the patch did so you probably don't need an unpatched version of RTW.

Copy protection shouldn't be an issue, so don't worry about it.

BI will overwrite the original RTW v1.3 files with identical versions of themselves during installation, as well as installing all the BI-specific files that you need. Unless you've modded your game in some way you won't notice any difference. You don't need to change your current RTW installation at all before patching, except to make back-ups of any modded files.

Maybe not for RTW or BI being that they use SafeDisc, but other games that use Starforce (Silent Hunter III for example - of which I have; great game) have indeed messed up people's computers. I've been fortunate enough to not have any problems with it. Starforce has wreaked havoc on some people's RW DVD-RW drvies. If you have the new 64-bit version of Windows, SHIII will not work. While the program itself probably would, the Starforce drivers aren't WinXP64 compatible. Ubisoft isn't releasing a patch of sorts, and neither is Starforce. I just like to know what type of copy protection I am placing on my computer.

Thanks for the other info, guys. My game is not modded, so I don't have to worry about any of that.
