I found the War of the Worlds to be a good movie...'till the end. At the end I was very disappointed. I mean come on! Planning an invasion for fiftythousand0mg years and they can't think of (what was it again?) air or some bacteria?

    Pff, fo' real. :(

Star Wars 3, was that this year? Wait, no. I'll have to go with "Napola"

War of the Worlds as best film of the year? You've gotta be kidding me. That was the worst Spielberg has ever done.

Potential nominees IMO. By no means a complete list:
    Cinderella Man
    Batman Begins
    Sin City
    A History of Violence
    The Constant Gardner
    Downfall
    Crash

So far, for me it's Sin City.
There were a few good others, but this is the only one that really surprised me (even knowing the comics).
When I said Death before Dishonour, I meant alphabetically.

How was A History of Violence? Any good? Looks interesting to me.

That's the way it was in the original 1953 War of the Worlds (including the book)

The Martians had no resistance to the bacteria in our atmosphere to which we have long since become immune. Once they had breathed our air, germs, which no longer affect us, began to kill them. The end came swiftly. All over the world, their machines began to stop and fall. After all that men could do had failed, the Martians were destroyed and humanity was saved by the littlest things which God and His wisdom had put upon this Earth.

This is one of the same reasons I hated the end of “signs”. Water is deadly to them why attack a planet covered with water. The stupid aliens from WOW’s could have analyzed what’s in our atmosphere before invading to find out if they should breath our air. DUH!

i´d say Sin City overall and I had Serenity as the best sci-fi movie i´ve seen in years...blows the new star wars movies clear out of the water...

I can only really mention those 2....really it´s hasn´t been such a great year....

Favorite that I have seen, hands down is Batman Begins.

But then, I have seen: Bewitched (a chick made me go), Sin City, Madagascar, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Kingdom of Heaven, Star Wars Episode III.. and that is all I can remember.

I would like to see History of violence, Lord of War, Corpse Bride...

But I liked Batman Begins more than any other comic book movie I have ever seen.

The problem with that is that the alien who was on the roof would have run himself into disintegration by charging through the corn field in the middle of the night. The dew would have destroyed him.

I enjoyed the new Batman and Sin City. Did Ong-Bak come out this year or last? I don't remember...

As already said, what could they do with the movie?
Should they have gone the way of Independence Day and used a computer virus (that was so obviously ripped from War of the Worlds)? That wouldn't work either as it would have been even more fishy.

While I don't think WoW was the best it was good enough. At times you did feel as if the director didn't know which stool to sit on and sat himself between it. Would it be a personal story or an action movie? In te end it becmae neither. You got a glimpse into Tom's character, but just as he was about to reveal more it became crash bang boom and oneliners, which was instantly interrupted by a repeat of the character development... The theory of the movie was great, but was flawed in its execution. I hope this will be tried again soon as it honestly was good.

The best movie... Well, I haven't seen any truly great ones this year. To say that Star War III is the best says a whole lot.
Yes it is great but come on... Lots of movies are better. I would say that in a normal year SW3 would perhaps be top 5 but not the winner, ever (well this year certainly crushes that huh).

I don't know really. If I were to count Alexander (last November) then I'd say that, but I can't say aside from that.

Ugh, that movie sucked. Seriously. Trying to fit everything of Alexander's life into a single flick gives you an ill-paced, wrongly fitted together, badly plotted piece of cinema history.

I think you have a very good point.

I think, it would have been better to make a series of movies. That in my opinion would have been awsome.

BUT, I do think, if there was a go at a one movie life story, this would be the best bet. I thought the battle scenes were very nice, and it was astonishingly historically accurate. One of the only flaws: The mutiny happened before Hydaspes in the movie, instead of afterwards.
