Default XBox 360 - questions and a neat looking game

Right, so my current console is a Gamecube.

And the XBox 360 is looking pretty shwanky.

Best Buy is (will be?) selling two different types of 360's - regular and "Core."

"Core" has less stuff but is cheaper.

Question: can I get away with just getting a core (and maybe an "Xbox live" subscription kit)? I don't need wireless controllers...

So how cheaply can I get an Xbox 360?

And this is an awesome-looking game. I highly recommend watching the trailer. I have no idea if the game is that good, but I hope it is (and that I can afford the xbox!).

Hey! There is nothing wrong with the GameCube! I want you to go over and apologize to it, and give it a hug!

There we go, now that THAT is taken care of (it is... right?) to answer your question: I would much prefer the more expensive set. Sure, it is $100 more... but you will need most all of that stuff anyway eventually (say a hard drive!). Xbox live I have never been a fan of, but... you could get downloads..!

The games coming out for it look awesome. BUT for me the only next-get system I care about right now is the Revolution. There is not ONE game coming out for PS3 or Xbox360 that you can't play right now! It just won't look as good.

Besides, I'm all about the RPGs... and those take a while.

Short answer: Buy the bigger bundle. It WILL save money in the long run.

Me I'm going for the bigger bundle. And hope fully I'll have enough cash to get Elder scrolls 4 at the same time.

Penny Arcade did a good comic relating to this, but I can't find it.

Basically it's the expensive version, or nothing.

I for one am going to pick up an xbox 360... At $400 it is the price of an averge PC upgrade component so I will simply delay uprating my PC a for few months and get a whole game system out of it...

Not that I will give up on the PC, Gothic 3 and Stalker look a far too good for that!!

I thought it was 300 or that could just be here. Well...Dear Santa

I'm going to sit for a while a let the price drop down real slow, like I did with the X-Box. I have been recently stockpiling X-Box games on the sly, as many of the best ones are now within the 20-30 dollar range. I have a couple of games that I haven't even played yet that are sitting on the shelf. When the X-Box support gets cut (no more new games), I should have a very large selection to choose from until the 360 becomes more affordable.

Damn you Microsoft! Getting my hopes up for saving valuable cash!

This sums of the two variants of the 360 pretty well, sadly.

At least your not getting violent molested in the hind quarters by the USD=CSD exchange rate. For games I pay $10 more than US prices. But for more expensive things like the Xbox 360 I gotta pay $100 more. So for me I'll be shelling out $499 plus 15% HST.

In all likely hood you'll be getting a game too which means you need to have a memory card.... So $574 (taxes in) is fine.
