I hate protectorates, they're a risky business. I'm still not sure if they're able to break out of it any time they want? They should all be killed, they deserve it, just for being so annoying.![]()
I've modded the game to give all non-Roman factions their upgraded generals' bodyguards from the beginning (a workaround for the Marius-dependent upgrade problem). This also has the happy side-effect of denying Egypt any free chariots. The result seems to be that, while still powerful, they are not the ludicrous superpower they once were. No more small Egyptian forces defeating full-stack Seleucid armies at least. As far as I know 1.3 also nerfed the Desert Axemen somewhat, which has probably helped.
