In Barbarian Invasion every infantry unit can be useful in a siege because they can simply bring siege towers close enough to walls to fire on the garrisson, so that is a pretty good use for the 60 man division, especially since the computer AI does not send cavalry out of the city, and since they don't rout as quickly as peasants do.

I didn't unlock the Berbers yet so never tried that strategy.
