Default How unlucky is your car ?

We are heading towards the anniversary of having my rear car window blown out by a firework, so I was wondering how unlucky is your car?

Its my own fault, 'the wife' told me not to have a green car, as they are unlucky, but I ignored her, and went ahead and got the car. I have had the car for about 4 years now and all was fine unti last year, then thing started to happen.

    PROBLEM 1

I got up one morning (around Nov 5) to go to work and while driving down the road I noticed my rear window was not de-icing so I put my rear wash-wipe on and guess what the window cracked and a hole appeared. The previous night a firework rocket had hit my window and blown a hole in it.

    PROBLEM 2

While parked at the football one saturday afternoon, I female driver pulled off a pub carpark and hit another car into mine, the drivers side of my car was badly damaged, but nobody was injured.

In some respects I was lucky, I thought, as a Police officer witnessed this happening, and she left a note on my windscreen detailing what happened and her collar number. But unfortunity she did not fill the correct forms in back at the police station to report this. It took me eight months to get it sorted out with the insurance company before I was compensated for the accident. It cost about £1,500 to repair the damage.

    PROBLEM 3

One saturday night a gang of thugs went on the march through my estate and damaged 35 cars. Yet again I was one of the lucky ones and the damage was only about 12 inches by 12 inches. However, it still looks a mess.

All of this has happened in the past twelve months...........

So the first question is should I get a new car that is not green, as I seem to be having nothing but bad look with this one?

Question number two , what bad luck have you had with your car.

I read this and thought, "doh ! Wind the window down BEFORE you light the rocket next time, doofus."

    Bad luck there...

My car is pretty unlucky too (is it the cars or the owners that are unlucky?).

Few months back I left it parked outside my house (as usual) over the week-end. Looked out on the Sunday morning to see it at 45 degrees across the pavement.

I initially thought it was a bit of student pranking but closer inspection revealed the whole passenger side smashed in.

Some bastard had driven into it and failed to stop. I suspect a drunk or a joyrider (or a combination) but no way to be sure.

Anyway the worst thing about it was that only a week before I'd downgraded my insurance to third party fire and theft - to save a few quid whilst work was quiet (self employed and all that).

    Was not chuffed!

Mine is cool, but a friend of mine living in Bordeaux had the surprise to find an Elephant's tooth falling upon its car. A former soldier had brought it back from Africa & was cleaning it outside its window, when he let it fall.....

Since I haven't got a car I can't answer for myself. But my grandfather's car has got to be one of the most dented I've seen in a while. Not to mention the damge caused to the side windows (and the front window of his house) after a bunch of largish stones got slung their way by his lawnmower.

Well it seems your car is the perfect bodyguard as it is catching all the hits and you are fine... I would rather have a dented car and be physially fine.

My Brother got a Renault Megane (98 I think) which I now drive and it is truely a POS. The week before the driving test the catalytic convertor fell off. Of course it cqan only get worse from there.
There has been numerous problems with the remote locking system. You seriously have to be almost touching the car with the key to get it to unlock. It also has a strange tendancy for the alarm to go off.
The Sunroof leaks (I know sunroof, )
There was a problem with the radio and tape player (so replaced it with a cd player)
Problem with the gearstick but seems to be fixed
Rattles inside all the damn time. The music has to be quite loud to cover it up.

The good news is that it is going to be replaced with a decent car this time round

Renault is hitech, but not that reliable. Peugeot/Citroën, though less hitech, are excellent cars. Me have a Citroën C2. No problem.

You were lucky. The firework rocket hit your car instead of you, and the firework didn't burn your car seats.

Your car was one of the least dented ones. Perhaps your car is lucky or the thugs didn't want any bad luck after denting your green car.

Thanks God, my car is not unlucky in that aspect; yet again, it is quite misfortunate. Every 10.000 kilometers I drive, I have a malfunction, something breaks down and I have to leave it in the shop for repairs. Repairs are rarely under 1.500 Euro. It has been son ever since I have that car. It’s a Grand Cherokee Jeep and I have really bad time parting away from it, it’s big, loud and wastes money, masters every road or track and leaves quite an impression on ladies. Just like me. So far, my new Audi is making me no trouble at all, it spurs like a cat and is incredibly fast, but I can’t give up my unreliable, uneconomic and largely hazardous Jeep.
