Thread: Legendary Weapons in BI?

    Default Legendary Weapons in BI?

I had read in the manual something about generals carrying special weapons, but have yet to come across this in the game, albeit I haven't played for very long nor looked in the text files. Has anyone run into legendary weapons in the game or in text files?

These 'legendary' weapons appear in the character's retinue list. There aren't many if I recall and they aren't wielded in the actual battle map.

And if I were a betting man I'd say that the legendary weapons might be the Spear of destiny, Thors hammer, and Excalibur.

I'm sad ): Theodosius has not seen anything for the ERE. Best general on the bloody map!

    But maybe eventually.

By the way, anyone know what the time limit is on the game? 476AD end date?

I just wonder what kind of religous relics are in the game. I really haven't seen any yet. But I've not played the ERE much yet.

At the start of the WRE campaign, in one of the settlements in east Germany (north of Salona), is a general who has the Splinters of the True Holy Cross.

A whole lot of nails and slinters of the holy cross... In my game I could have built several crosses and crucified a similar number of men (nails) with what I have got.

But I have yet to see a single weapon. Perhaps it is more for the WRE or barbs?

Pushed by the rather apparent lack of weapons I looked into the file.
They are there, but they are rater hard to get... Especially the Sword in the Stone, it can't be gotten by anyone as it is set to be given out in turn -726, but then again only Romano-British can get it.

So in terms of weapons I was rather surprised by the lack of them.

Wha I did find was some very interesting ancilliaries. For isntance each ofthe patriarchies can grant a patriarch (I have only gotten the one of Constantinople myself), even the Pope.
Another one I really like is if the father has a bit of paranoia then his son might get an overprotective nanny when he comes of age.
You can even get a praetorian guardsman.

Oh, and both Nestor and Pelagius are possible to pick up.

I am definately liking the new varieties of VnV and ancilliaries. Definately better than all my generals having Drunken Uncles.

Yes, they are decidedly better... Well at least some of them. There are even anciliaries you almost can't get, like heretics for instance. That shows some effort was put into this.

But I think I have found a small mistake. One of the Nails of he True Cross add +1 to Unrest while all three others grant -2 to Unrest. All the splinters are also uniform, so I wonder why it is different.

Funny, I've only goten the Patriarch of Antioch so far. I've also had some sons pick up abbots and abbesses. The abbess is the better

After the hundreds of thousands of words I've put in TW products, the fingers are getting tired. And hey! I'm only getting sleep in three or four hour chunks at the moment, thanks to my very young son!

Wow, can you tell us the traits of your son? I mean besides Blabbermouth (a trait that is inherited from the father).

Now, can you explain why the nails used to pin Jesus' left hand are bad for unrest? Is the left hand cursed or something (damnation, I'm lefthanded)?

Aha. I've remembered now. Originally there were proper relics and relics that were being passed off as genuine. Also at one point we separated out unrest into three religious flavours, so that it was possible to increase Christian order at the same time as really upsetting the Zoroastrians. These distinctions and detail, however, definitely began to look far too complicated and fiddly and were therefore dropped from the final version. Be thankful for this, as trying to manage three lots of unrest was not fun, it was painful.

Yes, that is a supersition. But it's not cursed it's just the devil hand. As Lucifer was the left hand of god and Gabriel was the right.

Son of a gun. EB has a few of these in development since the spring that we thought would be a neat new thing to bring to the game. I specialize in Pausanias, and he mentions some relics like the spear of Achilles and the temple it was located in as well as some other ones. That sort of thing. But the 3rd century BC is not littered with very many of them, so we had only gotten some greek ones.

Well, it seems quite appropriate for the BI period too. Good thinking guys. Glad folks are enjoying them.

Anyone found the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch yet?

A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

That does sound... ehm rather problematic, so I'm quite thankful with all the problems I faced with unrest early on.

So the lefthanded nails are false relics? Damn... I just seem to get them all the time. Unfair that I get the single false relic all the time. I mean there are 6 other true relics but no, I have to get the bad one.

Well that's acurate. I think they had two brains of some saint, one of when he was 12. So logic is nothing particularly important when it comes to religous artifacts.

I love how they say orangutans... quite funny. Is it just me, or did the Lord want them to eat really weird animals?
BTW, I think it's stoats, not toads...
