Default Thread not closed but gone !!!

A new thread that was opened by me is gone , just like that . Without entering (for the moment) in to the subject of the thread , can someone please remind me the reasons (ForumRules) for erasing threads .
This is the first time I saw it in my 11 months here .
Btw - the amazing thing is that no one can see the thread (well...) , so how can one be able to discuss about it (...)

I would imagine that the mods felt that a thread devoted to insulting a user modification had no place in the entire forum, much less in the Monastery, which is only for historical discussion.

Its nothing really new. Mods can delete threads, but it is seldom used.

Insulting ? How is that ?
In the monastery , why ? Because I asked a simple question , that is , how the EB members had an access to historical sources or knowledge that anybody else does not have (that is what the EB team member have said...) ? People did not learn in universities ? People don't have access to libraries ? To the internet ? suddenly one have new sources that the academy does not know about it ? Did the EB team members got books that others can't get ? Did they found Livy's lost books ? only the EB team members can use ancient Latin or Greek ? Did they found another version of the bible ? Did history is written for the first time by the EB team members ? That is for the monastery !
Now tell me how are those questions worth erasing a thread ? ha ? I say , a moderators conspiracy ! (can you belive this , another one , I did not belive that asking those questions is not allowed in a forum , go figure) . What is the next step ?
Btw - if you want to answer those question...no , I don't think you want to...

Caesar, no one claimed to have sources no one else had. Sarcasm pointed out some of our proffesional historians have more information than a certaint person.

He claimed a general claim (please read it again) , but you see , we can discuss it , so why the moderator erased the thread , I really don't understand it . I will go another step , OK , the EB team member is right , you (EB team) had access to knowledge that others have not (go figure...) , don't you think it worth a thread in the monastery ? I say , hell this is big news !!!!

Don't you ever shut up? Stop twisting what I said.

Who the hell do you think you are, coming here and insulting (yes, insulting) people who have years of experience in this line of work? Can't you accept that certain things have not been translated or published to the general public? Classic authors are not the only source one can use you know?

Since when do you consider the internet as a really accurate source of research? The really good sites are very, very rare.

Good information is hard to find. Deal with it.

What does maturity have to do with me telling you to shut up?

Frankly I should have remained quiet (bet you're gonna use this later) and not be drawn to your mindless discussion, as that is the main purpose of a troll.

Let's do a test; find me on the internet the exact movements and nature of the sucessive offensives in the early part of the Reconquista. Hell, throw in Charlemagne in there if you find anything too. Best you're gonna get is an expanded chronology.

Looks, these are the sources we (at least within the areas I work) use for our information.

    1) Classical Authors.
    2) A number of texts that have been preserved in Irish, Greek and French Monasteries that one of our members works with.
    3) Archeological findings that some of our members worked on recovering and are working on analyzing.
    4) Experts in various fields (such as Punic Linguistics) that some of our members are in direct contact with.
    5) Secondary source material in both books and academic journals.

    Does that clear things up?

You have to be careful with classical authors though in my opinion.

I have "The War with Hannibal" by: Livy and "The Campaigns of Alexander" by:Arrian. Both are classical authors in that time period, but they had reason for being bias...

Regardless, your post was not fit for the Monastery. It was about EB, so it should be posted in the EB area. But you didn't want to ask EB members, you wanted to flame EB indirectly, so you posted in the Monastery.

Generally EB doesn't respond to trolls, but I guess I've had a masochistic streak lately, so I will do my best to try and help you understand.

Three EB members are actively involved in archaeological digs or direct translation of things that have never before been translated to modern languages, two of whom do this for a living. Like all new discoveries these things take time to publish, and in the case of our translator this information may not be published in English for decades, as the field of study lacks much interest and is considered boring by many. Others have participated in such research or archaeological expeditions in the course of their studies, and have been a party to other discoveries that will be published in due time, and at least one will probably publish some on his own.

We also have made a conscious effort to contact the noted experts in fields of study where we are light on expertise, and have had the good fortune to be in communication with some very real experts. This information may be available to many, but very few will go to the lengths we have gone to in order to get it.

So, we have the good fortune to have at least one true expert, on the cutting edge of his field, as a member of our team, others with high levels of access to information that people outside of these fields don't have access to, and have done some hard work in contacting other experts for their research and opinions.

No, I don't really want to, because feeding the trolls is a bad idea. Based on your past history you will now flip out and make irrational statements. You will froth at the mouth and claim that the world is out to get you, and also throw in some completely ahistorical claims which have no basis in fact and no support through evidence.

But, please do prove me wrong. It wouldn't be the first time I have reformed a troll.

Yeah of course, Livy is especially unreliable. He's basically a Propaganda mill for the Romans. We try to corroborate information from Classical Authors or other ancient texts (like the ones from the Monasteries) with archeological finds or at least other period texts.

caesar44, I moved the thread offline and I PMed you about it immediately afterwards. I took it offline for several reasons:

    1. I had no idea how an EB thread ended up in the Monastery. Did it originate there? Was it accidentally moved to the wrong forum or was it intentionally moved there...and by whom? I was confused at first and then a little stunned as I read the thread.
    2. It seemed like you had issue with the EB historians and simply meant to air your grievences with them over their historical interpretations for their mod. Debate is okay, but when whoever makes the final decision over these issues for the EB mod, it is their mod and their decision to make. If you don't like those decisions, then maybe it is time to find another mod or make your own. In light of this, the thread seemed pointless and inappropriate for any Org forum, save maybe the EB forum.
    3. I didn't like the tone of the accusation or some of the replies and didn't see the thread getting any better, only worse.
In light of these three items, I felt complete removal was necessary and least until I could sort things out.

I did goof up processing the removal though. I wanted to copy the thread offline and then delete the Monastery version - which would allow me to put in a deletion comment for those wondering what happened to the thread. Unfortunately, I did a complete move which left no trace in the Monastery. My mistake and I'm sorry for any confusion or angst caused by it.

Surely they do, but only people in the field of academic research have access to the international academic network, and even then current research that isn't published won't be found there.

Waow , some 200 words argument , you see , you can do it !!!

    You can't be serious.

    That's include your previews ?

What academy? Perhaps you don't understand how discoveries are made and published, and how that information gets disseminated. Or how some things take a very long time to be published.

    Aha .

No, but at least one EB team member has read books that only a handful of people in the world (relatively speaking) have the language skill to read.

Hmmm , good for him . So when he is going to tell us that Hannibal took rome ?

    Which books would those be?

    Is this a joke ? I thought that you have something...shame (btw , its 10 to 20 and 46 to 142)

Come on, troll, certainly you can do better than these. Use a little imagination.

    ???

    Yes. Praise ZeuJesus!

Is this is alcohol or something ?

No, but based on some statements you have made in our forum you should be asking yourself that question.

    What about you ?

Sadly, no, that is for your imagination.

Sadly ? Why ? Please tell us

No, I don't really want to, because feeding the trolls is a bad idea. Based on your past history you will now flip out and make irrational statements. You will froth at the mouth and claim that the world is out to get you, and also throw in some completely ahistorical claims which have no basis in fact and no support through evidence.

And now you are a fortune teller...

But, please do prove me wrong. It wouldn't be the first time I have reformed a troll. :scastle

Ah , yes , a troll , forumrules and all that...talking like a true troll fighter , tell me , how they killed trolls back then , please consulte your un published books...(that is a good one , a good one , un published books...) .

    [QUOTE=Gregoshi]
it is their mod and their decision to make. If you don't like those decisions, then maybe it is time to find another mod or make your own.

    Gregoshi ,
That is exactly the point , its their mod and they can do with it what ever they wants , even to make it a God and worship it . But The EB mod was not the issue , but their claim that they know everything , that is , E V E R Y T H I N G and the hell with everybody who think he know 1 or 2 things . Livy ? Biased , Polybius ? Aaaa he was a friend of the Scipios , Appian ? He was on drags , Dio Cassius said there were 80,000 soldiers in the battle ? Who cares , we know everything , there were 8 soldiers ! How we know that ? We have our super knowledge and all that . As I have said , it is Hubris !!!

Now , I don't think that the 10 or 50 or 100 EB team members here in the ORG like to hear it , so , I can't say it ?

I will bett you that they are going to use the word "troll" in their replies , now having said that what new nice words they are going to use ?

    Evidence?

caesar44, every time I saw you clash with the EB team I initially thought you had a good point, but I was stopped from openly supporting you by the way you pursued the discusion. EB members are biased in favour of their own interpretation off course, but you seemed to delight in pouring gasoline on the flames.

I also sometimes think that they rely too much on assertion and too little on actually posting references but posting a thread insinuating that they made it all up is insulting. If you don't like the way EB is doing it, why don't you do it yourself? No one is forcing you to go the EB forum and listen to their statements of history.

The Watchtower is to discuss Org policy - your original question "Why was my thread deleted?" has been answered by Gregoshi.

The original thread in the EB forum that provoked your thread was one that was created by someone who had evidently taken no time to read about the approach EB was taking nor even glanced at the EB map before launching into a aggressive attack upon what he _assumed_ the mod was doing.

He was complaining about the naming of the factions without even having read the faction previews! Because if he had, he would have found how his assumptions were mistaken in those threads.

Now, if you have a specific point of historical contention with the EB team then take it to their forum. You know this, because you have done this in the past. I know that you and some of the EB historians have had some colourful discussions in the past.

If you want to ask a general question about what historical sources they're using, I also know that that has been asked _and answered_ several times.

If, however, you want to start a "I consider the EB team a bunch of arrogant ****wits" thread, then this is not the place - nor is anywhere that I moderate.

Your question has been answered - if you have a dispute with the decision the moderator made then you are free to follow up with him and with Tosa via PM.

In any case, this thread has served its purpose - and the Watchtower is even less the place to engage in your original discussion than the Monastery.
