I think Cats are indisputably more intelligent, and far less work. They're also the only kind of pet I own.

However, I've been hankering after a dog recently. There's a companionship there that you don't quite get with cats.

Cats. heir smarter, more independent, far cleaner and dont slobber all over you nevermind smell like crap. You dont have to walk them or scoop up their poop orworry about them attacking someone. They keep your home free of pests and are real fun to watch. Of course they spend most of their time sleeping. But even this is good as they put out a calming karma. Also if a cats affectionate ro you its because it loves you not because it wants some food. They can survive quite well without you unlike a dog.Though they do get over affectionate when you go to feed them rubbing all over your legs.

A domestic cat somehow enlarged to the size a Golden Retriever would be the best compromise, I think.

How you'd achieve this, I don't know. Some form of gene manipulation, probably.

I think cats and dogs are the same when it comes to intelligence. It's just that cats don't really interact with human as dogs do which is why some people think dogs are smarter.

I gotta go with cats though. I love underdogs.... well, cat in this case.

    Dogs.

A dog is a loyal compagnion, whereas I find a cat to be... less personal somehow.

As for the kind of dog..I prefer the larger breeds, to be more precise , my favorite breed would be the Great-Danes, the biggest dog around

Do you think you could tame a wolf if you raised it from birth?

    That'd be the ultimate dog.

I have dogs and cats, but nothing beats a rat. (and im serious)

Theyre smarter than dogs, cleaner than cats, and a lot more manageable in the city.

If you buy them from the store they less likely to carry disease than most other pets.. the whole bubonic plague thing just gave them a bad name.

Yup, rats are awesome. I'm going to buy some when I go to university, as I can't keep larger animals in halls.

You might consider snakes. A friend of mine used to keep some (not a poisonous kind) in his lodging when we were at University. He just let them roam the rooms and corridors because snakes are clean and they are good company. They are smart, require little food and have interesting habits.

Yeah I had a rat back in Jr. High School, and she was cool. Name was Harley. Taught her to walk a tight rope and she also ran the maze (I got her in a summer school program). Her favorite thing to do (and my favorite thing to watch) was to tear up her fresh paper and make a giant pile of shreddings, in which she made her nest. She was cool.

He just let them roam the halls? I was under the impression that most snakes needed a climate controlled terrarium. Or is that iguans? I can't remember.

It'd certainly be a good way to pick up the ladies. 'Hey baby, want to play with my snake?'

His building was warm enough. And they look for the warmest spots, that is why he could find them back within a minute. He just went for the boilers, radiators, backs of fridges and there they would sit.

He was quite a player and I believe his snakes went some way to explain his attractiveness, but he was also a very good biologist (he is now a professor) and a great chess player. In the early nineties he went to Berlin where he bought himself an obsolete East German Army truck, drove it to Africa and came back with a completed Ph.D. thesis. He is that kind of guy.

Is this for real? Well, then GAH to you!

Also, pound for pound, a hyena can tear a tiger or lion apart. But that is matching gross weight, not numbers. Also, a wolf is a lot smarter than a big, brutish fanged cat. That would be a great pet... just have the big ****er sitting in a corner, staring down your company, never uttering a sound...

I have to get a Siberian Husky.

Cats all the way. Dogs are too loud, extroverted, energetic, dirty, "masculine", and whiny for me. They're like American football players--loud and obnoxious, and I never understand why they're so appealing to the ladies. Dogs remind me, strangely, of the apocalyptic ladder theory. Cats are more introverted, truly loving, majestic, and self-sufficient. More like me.

They have something in their eyes that provokes your thoughts - even the cutest, smallest one can be intimidating; unlike dogs, which could be easily read.

And they're smarter in an arrogant sort of way. Dogs are dumb and their habits could be easily forged. They lost their wolfish ways to the comforts of man.

wallabies! Smarter than either dogs or cats, far more nimble, and can take care of themselves for fairly prolonged periods. Mine however is unusually affectionate compared to most people who have a wallaby...I'm thinking of checking him into a therapist to make sure he's not gay...

Maybe we could breed cats and dogs together to get a pet with the loyalty of a cat and the cleanliness of a dog.
