    Hey guys!

Downloaded the 'CA_Peloponnesian era Spartan Hoplite' as it looks awesome but having trouble installing it in 1.3 RTW.

I was wondering if someone could help me with as to where to place these files..

    unit_greek_spartan_greek.tga

    unit_greek_spartan_greek.tga.dds

    unit_greek_spartan_hoplite_pylos_100.CAS
    unit_greek_spartan_hoplite_pylos_200.CAS
    unit_greek_spartan_hoplite_pylos_300.CAS
    unit_greek_spartan_hoplite_pylos_400.CAS

Preferably in a >thisfile>thisfile>thisfile format thanks, heh.

Now, I followed the instructions of the read me as follows...

"Give your Greek armies a different look! This alternative Peloponnesian-era Spartan Hoplite model can be downloaded for use within Rome: Total War. Downloading this model will overwrite your existing Spartan model, so be sure to back up the appropreate .cas files first (or prefix them with an x) if you wish to revert back at a later date. Please note that due to issues with how the game stores unit card files this download does not replace unit cards within the game.

    1 - Download Spartan_downloadable.zip

2 - Go to C(or the drive letter you have allocated):\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\Models_Unit. Create a folder entitled "Textures".

3 - Open Spartan_downloadable.zip. Extract unit_greek_spartan_greek.tga and unit_greek_spartan_greek.tga.dds to your freshly created Textures folder.

4 - Extract the four files with the extension .CAS to C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\Models_Unit.

5 - Run the game! The original Spartan Hoplite will be overwritten by the new model!

    6. To uninstall the new models simply remove all of the new files and replace the original .cas files (or remove the x prefix from the file names) the model will revert to the original."

The problem I am having is that I am using 1.3 for a start, (I assume that has something to do with it), and on the battle field they look the stuff when zoomed in but if I zoom out even to just a localised view they look like the cloak wearing spartans of vanilla RTW. Or half and half !?!?!?!?
So, due to this I mucked around looking for similar files in folders for the first two files above '.tga' and 'tga.dds' to try to work it out. Had a CTD so far lol.! ?

Could someone please verify for me that I haven't stuffed up the 1.3 spartan description file, (unit_ desc text I think it's called here and there in these forums) for the game engine etc and as to how to address this problem of in battle changing textures? And if I have stuffed up , could you show me what I need to do to fix it. Please

I have spent last 4 hours looking for a straight forward description of allocating such files to where they are supposed to be, to no avail.

The tutorials are excellent but seem very focused on working with an original file in a animation program and they don't seem to show how to put it back where and which files are for what. I know that CAS files are to do with the polygon count of any particular model defined by the number in 100's in the file. But that's all I've worked out :O

So this is why I ask. I tried, but I was so excited to find this model again and use it, but have my favourite greek campaign in 1.3 RTW and am now lost.

Please you modding gods ! heeeeellllpp!!!!!!!

I am a casualty of modding ignorance. I thought I'd just get cool looking spartans...*sigh*

And thanks in advance! (I may have to add this to my sig soon at this rate...)

    Have you read this tutorial?

Sounds like CA didn't include sprites with the new model (at all but the highest graphic settings 2d sprites replace the 3d models when you zoom out by a certain amount to maintain performance).

That is an excellent tutorial mate for sure thankyou.

I read the link to the sprite script thread but it's beyond me :(

Does anyone have a 2d sprite thingy of that file above?

Or could some one put step by step what I need to do.. please... heh... I don't understand what the command line stuff is about in that particular thread...***sigh***

I'll keep reading it to try to work it out but I'm not liking my chances here...

Can't help you there, I'm afraid - my own experiments with sprites were unsuccessful.

    Hey Epistolary Richard,

What if I rename the tga and tga.dds

    unit_greek_spartan_greek.tga

    unit_greek_spartan_greek.tga.dds

    file's to ...

    unit_greek_spartan_hoplite_pylos.tga

    unit_greek_spartan_hoplite_pylos.tga.dds

    ?

Maybe it is the sprite model ? But needs the proper name for referencing in the engine? Whatever you call it. I wont do it until someone confirms for me I wont damage anything.

Thanks, as per usual, in advance.
