    Default Plural of 'Brutus'

Now here's a real shocking issue: When the plural of Julius is Julii and that of Scipio is Scipii, wouldn't the plural of Brutus be... Bruti?!

If so the we have another MAJOR bug in the game!

Anyone with enough knowledge of latin to shed some light on the subject?

(to prove you know your classical languages translate: 'Homo sapiens non urinat in ventum')

You know, there really is only one of me, so a plural seems redundant...

About the matter itself, I don't know... Maybe some valid irregularity concerning personal names? (I've seen it elsewhere) Anyway, 'Bruti-i' probably souds better then 'Bruti'...

Edit: Indeed best not, I need these shoes again tomorrow...

Well, in Latin class I learned that the Julii were actually referred to as the Gens Julia. Which means the same, really. Brutii would, in Rome be Gens Bruta ?

If I'm correct, the family name of Brutus actually was Junius (So I guess 'Gens Junia'), like the Scipio family name was Cornelius in real life. The word 'Brutus' was more of a hereditary honorary title, or something like that...

But many more than the Scipios were Cornelians. The Cornelians were more of an extended clan rather than a family. Though they did have a sort of common feeling.

I think they just loosely based the families of the game on Julius Caesar, Brutus, Scipio Africanus, etc. But yes, the historical Brutus' name was Marcus Junius Brutus. His family would then be the Gens Junia.

Plural of Brutus should be Bruti.

And the plural of Scipio would be Scipiones. Guess it didn't have that mafia ring to it...

Hmmm... so only Julii is spelled correctly then. Well since this three-factions construction has no historical background anyway I shouldn't be bothered by it I guess.

I do think that an interesting scenario / mod would be a campaign with Gaius Julius Caesar against Pompeius Magnus and then later against Marcus Antonius... :dreaming away:

Scipiones sounds cosa nostra enough to me btw...

A wise man doesn't urinate against / in the wind, that's wat it means right ?

anyway, it has been said, Brutus should be Bruti , however maybe they thoguht it was Brutius , whicj means it would be Brutii.

If that;s not it , then it's wrong.

The latin in RTW is pretty atrocious, to say nothing of the 'latin accent' of the voice-cracking guy on the battlefield. Particularly 'Imperator' - should be pronounced 'Imp-ur-AH-tor' and not 'Imp-era-tor'.

Some pretty good-sounding latin stuff in the voice mod. As has already been pointed out, the game gets wrong both the other Roman factions besides the Julii, and even then it's pronounced like the name 'Julie' is today and not 'Jul-e-i.'
