I think Mendelil hit the nail on the head for me. Throw in the ability to take and control land, and you have it. Basically, Mount and Blade in Europe. That would be heavy...

Pretty much Medevil Total war, redone with better graphics, AI, diplomacy, and Spectacular castle sieges.

Roma Victor is just 1000 years too early for you and Meneldil then?
It's basically what you asked for, but starts in 180 AD..

My idea of a perfect computer game is a mixture of Total War and KOEI's Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I like the battles in Total War, and I like the distinctive characters of each generals in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. You can do one on one fights between generals in RTK too.

I'd want it to be as historically accurate as possible, but balanced with smooth, intuitive and engaging gameplay.

I think it would be cool to also expand the aspects of strategic agents, taisho, and daimyo--to add a "story" element to the game. Perhaps incorporate aspects of the game in "FPS" style, which are segued to when certain actions are taken, or circumstances are encountered. You become the ninja, kunouchi (female ninja--what geishas in the game really are, in my mind), or shinobi, and execute a mission, etc. If a daisho or daimyo flees the field, it segues to an "FPS"-like interface and you have to hunt down the fleeing general or defend yourself, etc.

This last isn't very likely, as it would require a completely different, additional engine, but since this is a "dream game" thread, I thought I'd put it out here. I might expand on this further when I have some more time.

I'll go with this, but with some added extras like:

Being able to design and build city walls, fortifications.
Design your own troops, eg heavy inf with crossbows, mixed squads, ships with marines
being able to train and assign officers and NCO's
    More diplomacy
Damn good naval battles, not like Pirates
In FPS mode, being able to split your squads and give orders

    Fair enough.
And the graphics aren't the best, but the advantage to this is that it'll work on my computer..

Actually, make it an MMORPG with player-controlled faction governments that can declare war on the other factions and you've got what I've been daydreaming about for months now.

    I like these ideas!!

Indeed more diplomacy. Perhaps indeed some more real action... like being a ninja on a mission or indeed a cavalrist who has to chase the enemy. Of course better grafics and improved computer intelligence... because it is lacking now

and something else, more details on castles. like when you're attacking a castle, the dojo's in it should be visible and destroyable. add the ability of the nature to be on fire at the battlefield but also these buildings etc. more details about the battles.... the map should really be in shape of the region, and anything of buildings that are in it should be visible.

Ooh ooh! I've got it! A Warhammer 40k MMOFPS!

Just imagine it: You're a soldier in a space marine/chaos/eldar/ork unit taking part in an invasion of a certain planet. Unfortunately, shortly after you land, a warp storm or whatever the hell you call those things overcasts the planet and you can neither call in reinforcements nor leave the planet. You're completely cut off and have to make do with what you have. The game would rely extremely heavily on squad-based tactical PVP, but would have a few quests to create a context behind the fighting. At the end of the last quest the warp storm subsides and you are able to board transport ships, and once you get on, you have the option of switching to another server (called "planets" in game, so essentially you're flying to a different planet).

Something involving a full VR body suit, that way you'd be fully immersed in the game. Then a brand new all improved singing & dancing NWN2, JA2, or KOTR.

Oh & a RTW version as mentioned in a previouse thread that you could rp in as a unit commander.

Mine would be a game described in a book called Complicity by Iain Banks. The game is Despot, and is clearly based on the Civilization concept, but the description of it sounds like a much deeper and more interesting game. It is a bit hard to describe if you haven't read the book, but think Civ on steroids, real time instead of TBS, more than decent AI and your view and abilities restricted depending on whether you have risen to ruler of the empire or are still a subject king, nobleman or other.
