    Default Kingdoms can Unite?

In my Seleucid Campaign, I got a message saying that The Kingdoms of Dacia en Thrace had been united in to one giving up their independence, freedom etc.

Is it normal for Factions to do that?
What's the use of it because I still see that Thrace and Dacia both still have their own turn and Thrace still has their own units (haven't been to Dacia's provinces yet).

I'd rather be the leader of a small Gallic village than be the second man of Rome - Julius Caesar.

It just means one faction has become the protectorate of another. The weaker faction then has to give some of their income to their protector and kiss the butt cheeks of their leader on a frequent basis, that type of thing. They can still act independant of one another, as allies, until the protectorate status is broken, which happens quite a lot.

If you play as the WRE in BI other factions often seem to demand you become their protectorate. I accepted once and I didn't actually have to give them any tribute, which I thought was weird. Often they attack you in the same turn as you become a protectorate. Crazy AI.

That's why before accepting to be their protectorate, ask for loads of money first. Then when they break the pact, they've just given you loads of money for nothing. Idiots.

If you have nothing in your treasury, you won`t pay anything. If you have money, you should have to pay a tribute each turn. There was a bug back in 1.0 that prevented that from happening. It was fixed in 1.2, but the bug might be back now.
