I rented it with a friend when I spent the night at his house and I don't know about BF II. I probably did not play it long enough, but I don't know. After the first one, I was expecting so much more than what I got. Oh, well!![]()

Got it for Xmas on PC and have been playing split screen BFII on my friends playstation... alot of fun fighting each other... sniper duals can be nasty particlularly as not all the scenary is solid... flowers for instance may block line of sight, they don't block sniper shots, which was cool when I shot my mates sniper in the side of the head when he ducked for cover.
AI is not super smart, the best it does is occassionaly having troopers that weave rapidly across the map, it will sprint across some areas, mind you I have had a bit of success shooting guys with snipers in the head as the run sidewards to my position across the map at maximum zoom.
Played a fair amount as a sniper on PS2 in cooperative split screen... however snipers do not fair very well on a lot of maps nor do they do well against other human players that move around... unless both of you have a sniper in which case the duals can be interesting...
On the PS2 we are now playing against each other in random campaign mode... the planets are going back and forth, space battles take forever and after 3 hours of constant battling we have managed to maintain the status quo of planets... just rearranged them slightly... some planets have inherent bonuses... if you attack the wookie planet and you are the imperials you can expect to see lots of wookies defending with the rebels...
My little brother got it for Christmas, and I really like it. But our second controller's broke, which sucks. And a few innaccuracies bug me (the V wing should be an intercepter, it's deffenitly not a bomber). And there needs to be more different types of ships, primarily capital but also fighters (where's the Tie Defender? Or the B wing? Skipray Blastboat?). And there are a few innacuracies with the clones (wrong markings on the wrong classes). For example, the heavy trooper should be the red shock trooper seen with Palpatine, the commander should look like a commander with the ARC skirt and gear, etc.
Besides that, it's really good.

Actually the color markings by the end of the clone wars was not uniform (pun intended). Particular units had particular colour codes... naturally the personal bodyguard of Palatine had a healthy dosage of red.

So: should I think about picking up the original SW Battlefront? Mongoose mentioned that some of the maps are better. That alone might make it worth it, but are there any other advantages or just interesting differences? Which Jedi / heroes make an appearance? (I noted in a post above that they aren't playable- I think I might actually prefer that.)
You can turn off heroes in the game.
Been playing a few XL games lately... rather interesting.
The linear main campaign is about the best I have seen, more due to its filling in star wars backstory and nod to fans out there.
The simple campaign system is more fun. I like deciding what to buy fleet/bonus/unit type. And then deciding which system to attack... defending Hoth against Imperial troops is a treat.
I know it's customized armor. But they have captian's armor as normal troops which wouldn't happen, and the Clone Commander is a Galactic Marine which has is a specific group that all has that sort of armor, but the Marine's captian would be unique.

For what ever reason, most of the good maps from BF1 were either cut or replaced with ones that weren't as good.
Some of them are unbalanced, but playing with 2-3 other players and trying to beat the over powerd team is fun.
But if you want to play online, BF2 is better. Mostly because almost no one plays BF1 anymore(or at least ont when i log in)
Also, alot of the Fist person views are better done, and the vehicles have a good first person mode(In BF2, they're completely gone)
Vehicles in BF1 were stronger, and probably unbalanced. It wasn't really a problem in Single palyer, but getting spawn edited by an AT-AT gets old fast.
If you don't want to wait for the BF2 mods(The First person views, huge maps weapon packs and other addons are already being planned. It'll probably be afew more months before any are released. 3 months and up for the maps though) Then BF1 is worth it.
Neither are very close to the movies. BF1 was probalby a little more creative though. the only things theat bugs me about the units is that some classes will be the swamp trooper skin, but the others look the same as before....

Right, but I would like to play along-side and against heroes, not play as one, which I believe you can do in BF1(?)Originally Posted by Papewaio
That does look really fun. I'm working on a little half text / half ultra-simple animation rpg to tie the BF games and the quick combat mode of X-Wing Alliance into a unified whole for me. Kind of my own SW Galaxies, with a focus on interaction with the heroes and villains of the first trilogy. (Is it possible to make your own rpg and still be surprised by the responses of the characters you meet? I don't know... Obviously a random component is neccessary...) So it will probably be awhile before I have time to really get into the game, but I'm looking forward to it.The simple campaign system is more fun. I like deciding what to buy fleet/bonus/unit type. Cool, another great link.Originally Posted by mongoose
Question answered: those maps make it definitely worthwhile to get BF1, and this...
which should provide an added degree of immersion, just ices the cake....the vehicles have a good first person mode...

But remember: most of BF1's advantges are temporary. In 6 months, the mod tools for BF2 will be out, along with the user made maps.

Yes, but they're kind of boring. mostly becuase they're invincible, as far as I know.
For the PC version in BF2, there aren't any AI heroes, excpet for the all-hero map (Mos eslily, assualt mode)
Good point, I'll have to see how cheaply I can pick up BF1.Originally Posted by mongoose

On the player's team; there are enemy AI heroes of course. (I know you know that, I just mention it in case somebody who doesn't have the game is reading this and might get the wrong idea.)For the PC version in BF2, there aren't any AI heroes, excpet for the all-hero map (Mos eslily, assualt mode)
I assume that all this means that in BF2, in singleplayer, there is only ever one hero per side on the map at any one time. (Except for that Mos Eisley assault mode.) I guess the designers didn't want things to get out of hand, but still it seems kind of dumb. I mean, in the movies there is more than one hero per side involved in battles all the time! In the game Han Solo and Chewbacca or the infamous siblings Luke and Leia never fight side by side?!? Except for that Mos Eisley map, where they might be confronted by an anachronistic General Grievous?!? I think the designers missed the boat on that one.![]()

the only real fun I have is when I'm playing the Clone Wars Campaign (Droids: Sniper, Clones: Soldier) or the Empire (Soldier)

, I think you are right. I just spent half an hour trying to generate an enemy AI hero (even going so far as to assign heroes to the best team and then repeatedly bouncing grenades off walls at myself
). Nothing. I am pretty sure you are supposed to encounter enemy AI heroes in battles, but I'm durned if I know how to adjust the "Hero" settings whereby it will actually happen. Perhaps somebody knows how to tweak those settings so it will work.
So my apologies to anyone who might have been misled by my false assumption and what I said about enemy AI heroes in that previous post.![]()

Rats, that is one of the things I was looking forward to in this game. Perhaps it will be fixed in a patch...
Also, I find the "Assault" map / mode isn't to my taste (extreme understatement). I mean, two Darth Vadars standing beside each other: lame! About the only way it will be playable for me is one on one, with no respawning.
Agreed, I like that map, but I was so pissed to see another Boba Fett I had to kill him.

Yeah, I wasn't sure of my terminology and kinda muddled what I was saying: I like Mos Eisley too*, just not the assault mode.Originally Posted by Steppe Merc
