    Default RTW Problems

Hello everybody. I just joined today and recently discovered this board a few weeks ago. Anyway I've had RTW since December of last year but have yet to play it. The reason is it won't work on my computer. The cinematics are all really slow and freeze up. The campaign map works but when I try to get to the battlefield the computer goes immediately to Windows and exits the game. Anyway I can fix this problem? Problems with RTW does give me time to play MTW.

Hello Cowhead418, welcome to the org

Tell us about your computer specs, and maybe then we can give you a hand in tweaking it to run RTW.

If you're unsure what hardware etc you have, click: Start>Run, type in: dxdiag. Then run all the tests, and click "produce report" when you're done. Copy that report and paste it here. The report will probably give us enough info to enable us to tell you what to change/adjust so that RTW will run for you.

    Cheers!
Be well. Do good. Keep in touch.

I ran all the tests and they were successful except for one problem. When I try to test the Direct Play on the Network Tab I'm able to get into the chatroom and it works but when I exit the chat the DirectX Diagnostic Tool freezes up and I have to exit that entirely. I can't get the report unless I've run all the tests. Any idea on what's happening here?

Run DxDiag again as above. Then highlight all the text in the Dxdiag box and Copy it or use Ctrl-C. At that point you can go ahead and close the Dxdiag box and then come into these forums, open a reply box like this, and hit Ctrl-V. Same as paste... It's not necessary to keep the Dxdiag box open once you have copied the text... Just be sure not to highlight and copy anything else before you paste, because it will overwrite the previously copied text in the clipboard area, which should be holding your DxDiag info.

I think the advice you been given so far is good however I would just download and install the latest and greatest direct X at this time.

After that I would double check that the video and sound drivers are the latest as if you were to call any tech support desk and get a game running its 99.9% of the time a driver issue.

so upgrade direct X and check all drivers are latest and greatest dont assume go ask.

then your game will work almost guarentee it.

    Computer Name: DEN

Operating System:Microsoft Windows Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)

    System Manufacturer: HP Pavilion 04

    BIOS: Award Medallion BIOS v6.0

    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.60GHz, ~1.6GHz

    Memory: 512 MB RAM

    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c

    Sound Drivers Version:5.12.0001.3035
    SoundMAX Digital Audio

    Display Driver: nv4_disp.dll
    Version:5.13.0001.1570

Since it wouldn't let me copy and paste, I typed in the specs that might be the cause of any problems.

The last time the drivers were updated was September 24, 2001 so that is probably my problem. I'll let you guys know when I have the game up and running. Thanks for all your help!

Well, upgrading to 1GB would certainly help, but are you using onboard video? I would HIGHLY suggest getting a dedicated video card. I take it your system is AGP?
